VERULAM EVENTS NEWS UPDATE – 06-08-2026

Marford Farm Float clinic Tuesday October 6th 2026 …..

The Events team are pleased to announce that the next stick float clinic will be on Tuesday 6th October. Time of the event is 10.00am until 3.30pm – with the option to fish on afterwards (for those having completed their Marford Inductions).

Our main tutors will again be match fisherman, TV and radio presenter Keith Arthur, James Robins from Cadence Tackle, with support from local expert Paul Andermahr and advice from at least one Marford bailiff.
We will be using both the Long Walk and Short walk on the day.
On the day we aim to show both pleasure and match styles as well as how to put a pellet waggler to good use on small rivers.
We also cover tactics / baits / methods and offer a peg by peg walk from bailiffs.
Keith is only available midweek and many members work shifts so hence this clinic is not on the weekend.

Numbers are limited (24 members) and the cost this year will be £15 to include a breakfast bap and lunch burger (bacon / burger / sausage) tea and coffee. Any surplus money raised on the day will be donated to the charity Get Hooked On Fishing. (Nearly £200 was raised last year).

To apply please send an email with your VAC membership number to events@verulam-angling.co.uk Closing date for application is Monday 17th August. We will then hold a ballot if we are over subscribed.

If successful, you will be required to pay the non-refundable £15 before your place is finally confirmed. Closing date for application is Friday August 14th.
Final details will be shared with attendees nearer the date.
Please note that both sides of the Marford fishery will therefore be closed for the whole day on October 6th. Only those attending the clinic will be able to fish after – until the off time in operation at the time. Please note – the whole fishery will be closed all day to those not attending.

IMPORTANT INFO TO ALL MEMBERS
Our bailiffs have had to deal with a number of issues regarding members not carrying their membership documents and clearly in many cases have not read the rules of the club.

If you enter any of our waters without membership documents and a rod license you may be asked to leave the fishery. The EA enforcement officers all have keys to our fisheries so if you do not have a rod license you could be fined up to £2000.

We also ask that all members read the rules of the club before entering our fisheries otherwise the Disciplinary Committee may find themselves becoming very busy!

In respect of the above and asking for members to read their rule books we would like to remind people of some general rules that require clarity.

JUNIOR MEMBERS

  • As per Rule 8 (Subscriptions and Fees) – Children under the age of 13 may fish free of charge under direct supervision of an adult without the need to register as a Club Member.
  • This means that the child can fish but as the rule states ‘under direct supervision’ which means that the child must remain in the same swim as that adult at all times. Any child left in a swim under the age of 13 unsupervised is not acceptable.
  • As per Rule 6 (New member Inductions) – All new junior members unless part of a joint membership will be required to attend an induction at Riverside Road Fishery before going fishing on any of the clubs fisheries.
  • Please text the Riverside Road manager to arrange an appointment to meet. This is a great opportunity for youngsters to increase their knowledge of fishing on the clubs fisheries and an opportunity to ask any questions about the club.

And lastly…. the club wants all juniors to enjoy their fishing and to get the most out of their visits to our fisheries. All we ask is that you respect the fishery and the etiquette of the experience and to not make a noise or leave litter of any description. And if any doubt about anything please ask the fishery manager or any of the bailiffs who will be pleased to help out.

JUNIOR MEMBERS AND GUESTS.

  • It is acceptable for all junior members to have one non fishing guest as per any adult member ie. partner / wife. At no charge.
  • Guest tickets are available as per information as listed in the Rules and Fisheries Handbook for guests wishing to fish.
  • It is always the responsibility of the club member to obtain the guest permit for their guest and will be held responsible for their guests (fishing or non fishing) conduct at all times.

TURNFORD AND FISHERS GREEN COMPLEX FISHERIES.
Please be aware that all members of the VAC have access to both these consortium fisheries and DO NOT require a separate membership card.

All the information is contained within the Rules and Fisheries Guidebook which you must carry with you together with your club membership card at all times when visiting these fisheries as you would on any of the VAC fisheries.

If any of the consortiums bailiffs ask for a separate ticket please call the fishery manager immediately.

Thank you.

All members should always carry their VAC membership documents with them and park carefully as described on their website.

MARFORD FARM FISHERY – SWIM CLOSURE

Please note that swims 9 & 10 are closed. This is because of unprecedented pressure on these particular swims and the concerns that we will loose fish if the fish are continually hammered into submission!

We appreciate that some members may find this annoying but we find that most accomplished anglers understand this decision and are happy to try other swims that also produce good sport but may require a little more effort to succeed.

Thank you for your understanding.

RIVERSIDE ROAD SHOP
As always, we are in need of donations for the shop. It is not just rods and tackle boxes but more useful are the smaller items such as shot, floats and other odds and ends. The main people who buy from us are those that actually fish at Riverside so that type of tackle is highly sought after rather than full carp set ups.
Please contact the secretary to arrange collection/delivery.
