Leasey Bridge
Location
Leasey Bridge is a charming stretch of the upper River Lea, located on the Lower Luton Road (B653), just 2 miles from Wheathampstead and 7 miles from Luton.
The fishery is easily reached from Harpenden and St Albans, with a bus stop just 200 metres away.
Overview
Leasey Bridge combines around 500 yards of the River Lea with a mature backwater, created by the club in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire over 20 years ago. The backwater now offers 10 comfortable swims and excellent fishing throughout the year.

River Lea
The River Lea is a shallow, intimate river with deeper runs and glides that reward a quiet, stealthy approach.
Species include:
- Chub to 5lb
- Barbel to 9lb
- Roach
- Dace
- Gudgeon
- Occasional Carp
Fishing is often at its best after rainfall or during the evening. Maggots, hemp, pellets and light tackle are all effective, although stronger gear is advisable where larger Chub, Barbel and Carp are present.
Backwater
The backwater provides consistent sport all year and holds an impressive variety of fish. While weed can become heavy during summer, weed rakes are available for members.

- Roach to 2lb+
- Rudd to 1lb
- Perch to 3lb
- Tench from 8oz to 3lb
- Chub
- Barbel
- Carp into double figures
Connected directly to the River Lea, the backwater regularly receives visiting Chub and Barbel, creating a unique mixed fishery. These larger fish are most active during low-light conditions.
Maggots, worms, sweetcorn and pellets all produce well, while hemp is particularly effective for the larger Roach. As the fishery contains plenty of weed alongside powerful Carp, Chub and Barbel, balanced tackle is recommended over ultra-light setups.
