Aylesbury Arm

The Aylesbury Arm is a Tring Anglers Association controlled stretch branching off the Grand Union Canal. With moderate boat traffic, plenty of far bank features and depths of up to 4ft along the centre track, it offers excellent mixed fishing.

Fishing Tips

The Aylesbury Arm is particularly well known for its Carp fishing, with most fish caught tight to the far bank using corn, worms, floating crust or dog biscuit.

For other species:

Chub: Chopped worm feed with double caster or worm and caster.
Tench: Float-fished sweetcorn.
Roach: Float-fished maggot or punched bread.
Hemp: Effective during the warmer months.

Fishing Areas

Redhouse – Buckland (Bridges 7–8)
A narrow section offering excellent mixed fishing, with a resident shoal of quality Bream.

Puttenham (Bridge 9)
The moorings below the bridge are a recognised Carp hotspot, alongside large shoals of Roach and Gudgeon. Above the bridge holds plenty of small to medium Tench and other coarse species.

Wilstone (Bridge 10)
Productive mixed fishery with disabled parking, accessible pegs and easy access behind the village green.

Dixons Gap, Marsworth (Bridge 11)
Popular mixed fishery with disabled access and excellent Carp fishing.

Fishery Rules

No fishing within 25 metres of locks.
No fishing within 15 metres of moored boats.
No fishing beneath overhead power lines (clearly signed).
Fishing is permitted from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset. Night fishing is not allowed.
Members must carry valid proof of membership. Anyone unable to produce it must purchase a day ticket from the patrolling bailiff. No exceptions, excuses or refunds.

Parking & Access

Marsworth Reservoir (Bridge 132): Reservoir car park. Follow the towpath past the White Lion pub and bear left onto the Aylesbury Arm.
Dixons Gap (Bridge 2): Lay-by parking on both sides of the bridge.
Wilstone (Bridge 3): Limited roadside parking.
Wilstone Village Green (Bridge 4): Disabled anglers only. All other anglers should use the village hall car park.
Puttenham (Bridge 7): Limited roadside parking on the south side.
Buckland (Bridge 8): Limited parking on the south side only. Please do not park on the north side.
Aston Clinton – Red House (Bridge 9): Roadside parking on the south side. Tring Water extends east only.

Please note: Parking is not secure. Do not leave valuables on display. The safest parking locations are Wilstone Village Hall and Buckland Bridge.
