River Great Ouse – Carlton Road
Located just north of Felmersham, this picturesque stretch of the River Great Ouse offers around 1,000 yards of fishing on a long sweeping bend, with the car park just a short walk from the river.
The venue features a mix of slower glides, wider sections and faster runs, with excellent opportunities to fish tight to the overhanging trees and bushes along the far bank.
Carlton Road has an excellent reputation for Roach, Chub, Barbel, Tench, Perch and Pike. Perch to over 3lb, Tench exceeding 6lb, and double-figure Barbel have all been reported, although many of the river’s biggest captures rarely make the headlines.
During the summer and autumn, the banks can become heavily overgrown with nettles, so members are advised to bring suitable equipment to clear a swim if required.
The stretch is also a fantastic place to enjoy the local wildlife. Kingfishers are regular visitors, while Otters have been spotted nearby, giving anglers a chance of seeing these elusive mammals, particularly during evening and overnight sessions.
