River Itchen club outing October 15^th 2023

The Club ran its annual outing to the Lower Itchen Fishery in October. 26 members roughly split 50:50 between the fly only section for grayling and the any method coarse fish section.

Whilst the grayling were hard to fool in the fly section many showed up on the coarse along with plenty of quality chub roach and a few stray brown trout. A salmon was also reported as caught!

On the fly beats, small nymphs in sizes 14 and below seemed to be the order of the day. Some members had over 5 fish though almost all were “out of season” brown trout.

A great day was had by all and the author of this report is already looking forward to next years trip!!
