Fishing widows By Duch's wife

Thursday 6th December 2007

My dear darling Duch,

Only 2 more days till you go fishing again! The anticipation of catching a couple of Carp (bigger than before, of course) is beginning to set in!! My dining room table has been taken over by you once again! Preperation has begun!!! Even though your shed is twice the size and you are supposed to be doing all this stuff in there!! The excuse is, "it's too cold", "you know I love you!"

Rigs are being hand made hehe!, lines are being changed and tightened, bait has been ordered, shopping list has been written out and posted on the fridge where I can easily spot it in the morning! Yes, us women do worry really. Are our big strong boys eating enough whilst they are away for a night, do they have enough tea, water, sugar coffee etc? Caring you may think but really its to save us having the hassle of loading the kids in the car and interrupting our peaceful day of shopping(in peace), gossiping on the phone(in peace) and doing everyday chores without having to come over and bring you supplies. Us women know that half the time you dont really run out of the things that you need, you are just missing what us wives do for you at home and after 12 hours away, you really are beginning to miss us!!

But thanks to Zanderman for when he REALLY has run out of the essentials!!

I am sure I am not alone when I say that fishing is not just a weekend hobby! Day in and day out fishing is the main topic in our household! If you men aren't fishing then you are discussing it on the forums, the mobiles and the landline(sorry Mum, for never being able to get through)!!

My dear Duch hasn't been fishing for as long as alot of you but dear God, he is certainly making up for lost time. Us fishing widows have no choice but to know the different species of fish, different baits and their use, rods, reels, suppliers etc. The list is endless!!

Duch once said to me " Think of my tackle box as being the same as your make-up bag!)". I did this and realised that FISH obviously come before me!! His tackle box is alot more up to date than my make up bag! "5.00!!!!" for a lipstick he says in disgust............but then goes and spends loads more in the tackle shop! "The ESSENTIALS" he says!

Us widows could dress up to the nines for you and you lot would still be more overwhemed by a scale perfect fish But upon saying this, birthdays and xmas's are certainly alot easier! Anything from the tackle shop that he hasn't already got, makes it so much easier to buy for him. Even the kids get involved! I love having a bed to myself once in a while ( when 1 of my 2 don't jump in with me), no-one to keep nicking all the sheet or keep me awake all night by snoring. I love watching a weepie film film on a Saturday night without "This is so CR**" , when's the end!!

Duch really enjoys his weekends fishing and I must say that now that he has a great hobby, we probablly get on better than ever! It's soooooo much better just having to organise activities for 2 little children rather than 3!!

Through fishing, Duch, Myself and my kids have met some great people so I dont begrudge it him for a moment(but a little more help xmas shopping wouldn't go amiss).

I have been out with Duch a couple of times and I must say I have really enjoyed it!! But if i do miss out on fishing then I suppose I can always clean the windows, scrub the floors, clean the cooker, iron, tidy the kids bedrooms HEHE No chance Not any more!

I am going to save it all for when you get back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tight Lines Babe x
