2011 Predator Match

The Predator Match – Felmersham 26th February 2011

Well, it was a day of very mixed weather……..that being, rain, torrential rain and light rain?? This combined with the river being in flood (not as bad as it had been!) meant that fishing conditions were very hard.

Five intrepid anglers turned out to take part in the first VAC Predator match. The match format was any predatory fish, caught on predator tactics, so that meant Chub on lures, would count towards the overall winning weight. The draw was at 8.30 and was a “walk off”. We originally set the time of the match to run until 3.00pm, but truth be known, most of us had had enough by 1.30pm. However, a couple stayed on….nutters?

The first fish, caught by myself, was just after 10am . A 3lbs 15oz Jack. I had not been fishing long as Graham Ross and myself, walked around to find some swims that offered some slack water. So, when the float went, I thought I was going to be in for a good day? That was not to be. The second fish and ultimately, the winning fish, was the next to be caught. A 5lbs 7oz pike. It was caught on a ledgered smelt in an eddie just off the main river. Dave C was not far behind with his Pike, followed by Peter. Ian had his little Perch of 6oz and Rich failed to score. So that’s how hard it was if Rich, who is a very good predator angler, blanked?

Graham and his 5lbs 7oz pike. All the Pike seemed to have much lighter markings than those caught in our VAC lakes.

Altogether, whilst the conditions were awful, it was good to get out and fish. Felmersham is a beautiful part of the Ouse and if you haven’t had a chance to get there yet, then you should make the time.

So there you have it….Graham is the VAC Predator Champion 2010/11. Well done Graham.

It is my intention to run this event again and we may even do more than the two events up on the Ouse as I feel that there are some truly lovely Pike and Perch to be had.

Look out for the dates later in the year.

Tight lines
