Masonic Fishing Charity

The Masonic Fishing Charity, Hertfordshire, held the second of two events on 22 June at Riverside Fishery, St Albans.

After the tasty egg, bacon and sausage rolls the fishermen awaited the arrival of the youngsters.

Despite a damp start the day turned out well with 24 youngsters from special needs schools being paired with experienced fishermen - many from VAC.

Many fish, including some good carp, were landed, accompanied by smiles and excitement.

Brian Lakin, ace matchman of VAC fished with one of our young guests and after a scrumptious cooked lunch, Brian presented certificates to the children.

At the end Brian received a certificate on behalf of the Verulam Angling Club in acknowledgement of the part VAC play in the community and making a real difference to young lives.

Wednesday May 25th and Wednesday June 22nd 2016
The events are organised by the Masonic Fishing Charity on behalf of children with special needs with several of our members participating and supporting. The purpose is to enable children with disabilities to have a try at fishing and members who have assisted in the past have found this very rewarding at a personal level. The events are described in more detail below:

It is not always easy as some of the children have a variety of real problems, both physical and mental but it is rewarding in its own way and always a good day out as the Masons spoil all of us with their hospitality. Photos from previous similar events are here. Should anyone wish to assist please send an email to events@verulam-angling.co.uk
