Carp Match Final

Well you are probably sick of hearing about it by now, but the VAC Carp Pairs Championship reached it's conclusion over the bank holiday weekend at the end of August. After three gruelling heats, we were down to the final 13 pairs in the competition, and they met at Smallford for a 48 hour 'Winner-Takes-All' shootout.
The competition had been good-natured throughout the summer, and the final proved to be no exception. Whilst the competition was fierce, the atmosphere on the lake was terrific all weekend. The fishing proved a little patchy, but most teams managed to get on the score board. However, there was to be a clear winning pair this year, as Carl Harpin and John Moss emerged as champions for 2009.
This was a richly deserved victory, as Carl and John had come very close in previous years. They picked up a slightly unfancied swim, and managed to hold off all challengers untill the final whistle on the Sunday afternoon. A massive well done to the pair, although I'm not quite sure how John managed to avoid the traditional 'dunking; of the winners. We will be putting a full blow-by-blow report of the whole competition, together with loads of photographs, onto the Specialist Web Pages in the next few weeks, so check back often for the updates.
The carp matches take an awful lot of organising, require quite a bit of manpower to run. There are far too many individuals to thank in this respect, but the guys that pitched in know who they are - you did a sterling job, and it really is much appreciated.
The good news is that despite utterly terrible weather for the three heats, the sun shone for the final, and the members turned up in numbers for the barbeque party. 'The Monster Raffle' was well.. monster, and seemed to go on forever again. Many thanks to all who donated prizes. As you are all by now aware, we run this in aid of Mount Vernon Cancer Appeal, and with a great final weekend we managed to raise a grand total of £1,007,00 this year. A superb effort, and you all deserve a pat on the back.
We will, of course, be running this competition again next year, Its fast becoming our flagship event. Watch out for news on how to enter, and why not have a go? Its not solely the domain of the Carpers - as has been shown time and again.
