2010 Moor Mill Pike Match

In the end the weather gave us a break and we were able to hold the Pike match. It was quite a cold day with some of the complex being frozen up, but ok to fish. The Sun came out around 11.00am, so helped warm us up and got some of us away from the kettle, at long last.

The draw was at 8.30 and the fishing started at 9am. I think everyone got their favourite swim as first choice, but it didn’t really matter as at 11.00am fishermen were allowed to start roaming the fishery.

Last year’s Champion, Nick TP, was first on the scoreboard with a nice fish from the school pit at about 5lbs. However his luck ran out, as did he as he had to go to work. Phew, I thought as I couldn’t face Nick being Champion for the third successive year…? (Only kidding Nick). Bradley was next on the scoreboard with two fish from the Leather Lake. It looked quite promising for Brad as the Leather Lake was looking very fishy. Then the island pike woke up. Some good fish of around 7-9lbs mark started to appear. Then the eventual winner, Peter Kirsop, banked his first fish. A very pretty marked 6lbs 8oz fish. It was soon followed by Pete’s and the day’s biggest fish, a 10lb 6oz Pike. His other two fish came in at 8lbs 14oz and 7lbs 13oz. A good day for Pete and one that lead him to become the VAC 2010/11 Pike champion.

Overall the day produced 21 fish with some fisherman landing their first ever Pike. Congratulations to those guys and hopefully you are now hooked on fishing for this much maligned fish..?

We have a trophy for Peter which will be presented at the AGM in April.

See you all at the next match in November 2011.
