Commentary:
Well done
to Paul who stuck with a reliable method and caught small carp steady throughout
on pellet, corn and meat. Pole at around 8m on the deck.
In the corner, Steve found that big hair-rigged pellet avoid attention from
silvers and had less but bigger fish for a close second.
Brian Lakin had a swim full of hungry roach. With no maggot to
risk being tempted to go for them, found paste avoided the roach and landed carp
on and off through the match. One more fish could have won him the silver peg dosh!!
Elsewhere
on the main lake odd fish were caught on feeder and shallow pellet waggler but
not enough to challenge top three.
Up the
narrow arm it was a different match with no carp showing until the last hour. Cliff
fished a cracking match, using canal tactics with maggot and caster over ground
bait for 14lb+ of roach and perch to 1lb plus a 1lb carp. I was to his left and
my ‘light’ carp rigs were nowhere near as effective at catching perch and roach
and after four hours had just 4lb in the net. Seeing Brian Bangs, two to my
right find a carp on pellet right over prompted a final look and my paste
attracted two small carp (and three foulhookers
lost), only for Brian to land an 8lber’ on the whistle.
After the
weigh-in was completed I returned for a further 90mins of paste fishing in a
swim now heaving with carp. Seven fish to double figures, plus a few more
bumped off proved I had the right method. If only I had sussed it earlier L
