Venue : Smallford

Match : Evening League #3

Commentary by Allan Bayman:

After an OK’ish Sunday match I think it was true to say people were quite hopeful for a good day. The evenings often produce better than the day sessions on many waters.

Paul Bangs drew the same peg he’d had 10lb of silvers out on Sunday, 23, and I drew peg 27 so was very happy even if work  commitments meant I got there with only minutes to spare before the whistle went. Would the low numbers produce the goods again like is often the case.

One the whistle I chanced my carp rod and within about 15 minutes got a very major line bite then nothing…….! I could see Paul Bangs getting the odd roach but not at his normal silver machine rate and elsewhere the odd fish was being caught but it was strangely quiet.

The low numbers pegs were producing the odd bream, skimmer and roach but very few and far between and meanwhile on peg 27 I was still waiting for something to happen now on the tip. Stan reported a reasonable first hour with silvers on peg 18.

Dave McGrath and Roger Smith in the low numbers were fairing better than most with bream and roger getting a nice roach and a small tench.

Meanwhile on peg 27 my pole float bobbed …. once.

As 9 o’clock came and the whilst went a heard a hooray from somewhere on the lake. I was one of those days, lots of dry nets and 4lb plus was a good weight but hats off to Colin Winter on peg 6 who managed to get into the bream and had a few to 4lb 8oz to take an easy win on a hard day with 15lb 14oz. With Dave McGrath in second from peg 3 with his roach and skimmer bag of 8lb 6oz. Roger Smith on peg 8 managed to take third with a 1lb 1oz roach and 2lb tench in his 6lb 15oz bag followed by Paul Bangs on peg 23 again and carrying on his 2lb and hour of silvers catch rate of Sunday putting 6lb on the scale in the 3 hours of the evening match.

Next evening match sees us at Riverside on Thursday 7th July
