Commentary by Stan : An excellent turn-out of 19 included Pete Fell, returning to VAC matches after a break of some six or more years. With the crayfish traps in place, pegs 1-4 and 45-48 could not be included so a chance to spread people around a little. Included for the fist time, peg 50 by the big collapsed Willow. A good decision as Martin Davis was 2nd with a nice mixed bag of small brown fish of various types. One more small carp and he could have won. In fact very close with three on 9lb+.

But it was Nick's night and here's how it went; "The plan was to use paste. I started off fishing up against the tree roots on my right hand side at about 13m. Within the first half hour I lost one and missed a couple of decent bites. Somehow I managed to get a small roach of about 2oz on a big lump of paste so I made the decision to try the 14.5m line out in front.

On this line I was getting plenty of indications of fish in the swim. However I was only getting small dips on the float which must of been roach or something. About half way into the match I had my first carp around about the 3lb mark. A short while later I had another carp about 1lb.

I decided to try the tree roots again and after missing a decent bite straight away I then had nothing for the next half hour.

For the remaining half hour fished the 14.5m line. Immediately I was rewarded with a carp of about 6lb and then just before the whistle landed a small carp about 8oz.

Luckily that lump late on made the difference to otherwise a bad day."
