Commentary by Stan: Things that were good; the turnout, great to see so many new faces. The £75 collected for charity. The beautiful sunshine and me coming second thanks to a big carp. Things that were bad; the water level makes some pegs very difficult to fish, the usual moody fish. Many of the new faces mentioned great pleasure days at Frogmore and found that match conditions are very very different. Some confusion over bookings meant that some people were told it was fully booked yet, on the day, two members turned up and were able to fish due to no-shows. All credit to Mark Jones who made the best of peg 14 picking up some good carp out at 11m on pellet in the open water and, with five minutes to go, tried corn under the platform on peg 15 and found a double figure beast to take top spot. I moaned when I drew 29 but found with the low water I could fish tight to the island in 12" of water using caster to pick up decent roach. But I abandoned the silver fish once I saw a few carp caught and wasted most of the match fishing pellet and paste without a nibble. Swapping back to the caster I hooked and landed the big carp and then, with nothing to loose, swapped down to a lighter rig for the last 30 mins to get a roach every put in. Paul was on 18, one away from where he fished last time, and similar 'up-in-the-water' tactics produced a mixed bag of roach, bream, skimmers, rudd, perch and a pair of small carp. |
