Venue      : Arrans, Entire Farm, Ingatestone

Match      : Championship #9

Match Write-up: by Allan Bayman

We had 19 booked in for our annual end of summer work out at Entire Farm, on Arrans Lake. This prolific venue remains popular with the club due to the fantastic fishing it offers. I was in two minds to fish this or not having just got back from a holiday the night before and having an ongoing back issue. After a week out of the UK I was missing my fishing so decided to go but dosed up on painkillers. A good breakfast at the Norton Heath Café with many of the anglers got things off to a good start.

On arrival, with the water level very low we had to leave out a number of pegs and space others to try and give people some areas of deeper water.

I was on the end peg on the first car park bank. Andy Trigg on the other end peg that Stan won from last year. Stan was in a good area on the damn wall bank and the added depth on that bank was likely to help.

This match had a mid time weigh in due to the extreme weights expected. The club record has gone here many times standing at 535lb.

On the start most people started to catch pretty quickly (about 5 secs from the hooter for Clive Bailey). Over time my peg got stronger until it was full-on bagging with bites within seconds from good size carp. It was hard to see who was catching well as most times I looked up people were playing fish.

Alan Gardner and Clive Bailey to my left were catching well as was Stan. Alan Thomas and Colin Rennison next to Stan were catching well too as was Steve McCarthy.

After some hectic sport the half-time weight-in was done. To speed things up we had five sets of scales around the lake. And the first 150 minutes results showed that there were a lot of weights around 200lb. I knew I’d caught well but was shocked to have had 370lb plus in the first half !

After some painkillers and gel for my back and a bit of food and drink for many competitors it was time for round two !

It continued much the same as the first half and most people find the second half a bit better. When the whistle finally went I think a number of people were in disbelief about how it had fished. The weigh-in was going to take some time as many anglers had at least four nets full of carp. Below is a quick pic of Alan Thomas with just a small selection of his fish.

Personal bests were being smashed all round the lake. Eight weights over 400lb and the battle for 3rd to 8th was very close. It would have been 9 over 400lb but Andy Trigg lost some fish through a tear n his net so missed out on 400lb by under 4lb! Steve McCarthy too a good third place with 486lb 8oz from the dam wall bank only 1 or 2 fish ahead of Colin Rennison who himself was 1 or 2 fish ahead of Clive Bailey. Stan had an awesome 608lb 2oz smashing the old club record also from the dam wall. I managed to heave a frankly daft 831lb 5oz onto the scales across both halves. That's nearly 3lb of carp every minute over the 315 minutes. Stan reckoned he had a total of 165 fish in total (95 in the second half of 165 minutes).

After a 2 week rest we are off to Lake John, top lake for a more sedate type of fishing but still very good with bream and carp expected to show. Please book on as normal to avoid disappointment.
