VENUE:
Aylesbury Arm, Buckland
TROPHY: Championship #3
Commentary: The stayaways had the right idea in my opinion. Whilst this narrow and intimate venue looks lovely and has produced good fish it doesn't in my opinion, suit matches. We had 12 pegs squashed into a short stretch between the lock and the bridge with the far bank only 9m over. Steve Burfoot, who fishes there regularly, said it was not worth pegging below the bridge save for one peg so we managed to fit all 13 who turned up into the 'best pegs'.
Despite the reputation for carp and the numbers who fished for carp not one was landed, Kev loosing three. Steve was an early leader from a fav peg with two bream but up near the lock Dave was able to locate and hold a small shoal of skimmers for an easy win of 6.04. Steve's fish went 4-11-8 for 2nd place and Phil Rule, next to Dave, also got the skimmers for 3rd place.
On the golden peg Joshua spent 5 hours with 12lb line for a winning carp that never came. But the 1-04 perch taken on the whistle had him excited for a few minutes. As he was packing up two carp rolled over his pellet feed!!
Note: With a 2pm finish and time to kill in the afternoon Joshua and I decided to have 3hr practise/knock-up at Riverside. A run of small carp and a near 4lb tench for me provided a more exciting end to our day with Joshua beating me again, 17lb vs 15lb.
