Commentary by Stan: Here we go again, the very poplar Evening League kicked off at Frogmore which, by all accounts, has been fishing brilliantly.
The transfer of many of the biggest carp was expected to make the fishing fairer and conditions, although windy, were not too bad. But, as we've come to expect, pegs that can produce 50lb in a few hours pleasure fishing can struggle to beat 5lb once those nets go in. Paul Bangs on peg 5 gambled on this and, despite having an island in reach, got his head down for silvers and rattled out an excellent 17.0.08.
Normally 20lb plus would be needed to take top spot but Paul's 17lb was enough tonight with the next six anglers all needing just one more good carp to beat him. Closest was Dave Mc on peg 18 with a level 15lb of small carp. Junior angler Matt Young who virtually lives at Frogmore was very unlucky to miss out on 3rd place by 4oz. He counted on the fish backing off to deeper water and pole fished corn for some good carp to 5lb. My match over on peg 10 was hard work. Two fish within the first 5 minutes, a bream and a carp gave me a great start but no more were forthcoming. Strong winds and a bright low sun kept me off the island point were I had caught for much of the match and no bites from the margins
