COMMENTARY: A perfect early Autumn day greeted 19 of Verulams' finest as they assembled for the first river match of the season.
The river was carry a tinge of colour and pace from recent rain although the weed was still a problem in many areas. The pleasant weather helped facilitate a close match with just over a pound separating the top four. Brian Lakin's mixed bag of roach and bleak was waggler caught from the top of the spinney and helped by a lone big perch of 1.15.
Ash Adams continues to storm away from the pack in the Championship with another 95 points from a bleak catch taken from the Church section.
Although no big chub were reported it was good to see plenty of roach coming back along with a number of very small barbel from around the islands.
