Competitions Committee report

 

June 2002.

 

The Champion of Champions Match was held on Sunday 2nd June.16 fished a match rearranged to accommodate those who wanted to watch England’s match against Sweden. The fishing was disappointing with only eight weighing in.

Claverhambury Carp Lakes was the venue of the unofficial match that was to have been the first championship match. A disappointing turnout of only fourteen was put down to a number of factors including the weather, the World Cup and the fact that no points were at stake. Those that did fish had reasonable sport with over 10lb per man weighed in.

The first Championship match of the season was held at Smallford on June 16th.This was also the first round of the Knockout trophy and the Rodney Lee trophy was also at stake. Thirty-five members fished weighing in a total of 255.8.8.

Steve Burfoot took a tench of 6.12.0

 

A total of over £65 was raised for Kidney research.

 

A number of members expressed some displeasure at lack of fishable swims at the venue with a number of pegs being unfishable due to overhanging trees/branches and overgrown vegetation.

 

The first evening league was held at Riverside on Thursday 20th June, twenty-six fished weighing in a total of 178.7.0

Mark Jones fished the Midland Angler Champion of Champions match at Woodland View fisheries but did not feature in the top ten.

 

The Club fished the Angling Times/Van den Eynde Clubman semi-final at Gold Valley Lakes on Saturday 22nd.The team were disappointed with their final position of 14th out of 21.Roger Brown top scored with 38lb and five points.

 

The Club have also entered a team into the Luton Summer League, the first match was last Sunday and the team finished seventh on the River Ouse at Sharnbrook.

 

 

The first ladies, juniors and over 60’s match takes place at Riverside Road this Saturday draw at 9am fishing from 10~3pm.

 

A reminder that the Trophy Presentation takes place at Riverside Rd. this Saturday along with a BBQ.The event starts at around seven.

 

Finally a reminder that the Pairs match will be held at Riverside Rd on Saturday 27th July again followed by a BBQ, all are welcome either to fish or to spectate or just to come along in the evening.
