Commentary: Why do we
bother we canals? Even when conditions are good for the
time of year half of Hemel decides that the nicest thing to do on a blowey February morning is a bracing yomp
along the tow path. Add the 100 nutters jogging 40
miles from Tring to It’s a deep pound compared to some. This helped make up for the gin clear water (never a boat or two when you want one) and the better weights were on the downstream deeper end. Top on the day, perhaps helped by having barges double parked downstream, was Len Cooper (peg 6) with two big pound-plus perch and a smattering of smaller samples for 5-8-0. Further down on peg 2 was Stan who picked up a pound-plus perch and a few others on pinkie down the middle and added some chublets and a couple of perch from the far side at 13m for 3-8-0 and 2nd. Phil Rule just held onto 3rd on peg 5 with a late 8oz perch to give him 2-7-0 to pip Neil on peg 7. Phil also had a pike which, of course, we don’t count. Elsewhere blanks were suffered including
Paul Bangs who was initially delighted to draw the peg where he had 10lb of
roach and perch when he practised five days earlier. Today not a single roach
was landed!!!....Roll on the Summer. |
