Ian Waugh Memorial sheild 2010

All week long the weather forecast was for rain all weekend, But the temperature was quite a bit warmer than last year and with low pressure everything looked good for the fishing,
Sat morning arrived it was dry and the sun was out, the gazebo's were assembled and the repairs done (thanks Keith Dan and John),
Everyone arrived for the draw at 11am except one person, mentioning no names (Paul Hill was an hour late and severely hung-over), the draw went well and everyone seemed to get their favoured swims and the fishing begun at 12 noon.
Zoe arrived with the food and drinks for the BBQ and the raffle prizes, and what a raffle we had, the VAC had donated two free junior memberships, and Verulam angling which is now run by Terry Field had donated a reel and a £10 gift voucher, London Colney tackle a £15 voucher and a rod, Five star baits had donated various boilies pop-ups and ground bait, several people had also supplied us with prizes including, the infamous Peppa pig, a keep net, an assortment of intoxicating liquors, some fishing related books, various toys including a metal detector and walkie talkies, Easter eggs in wicker baskets, and other bits and bobs, (thanks to everyone who I haven't named).

4.30pm and it was time to light the BBQ, a part of the weekend that I was dreading as I am not Jamie Oliver when it comes to cooking on hot coals, Jumbo sausage Quarter pounders and Jacket potatoes were the order of the day with a side dish of the usual Salad Cheese and Beans, The girls done an outstanding job with the serving and I must say I rather impressed them and myself with my new culinary skills.

We offered two new service's this year, one being buy one of the clubs limited edition Verulam mugs and get free refills of tea and coffee throughout the match and the other being swim service between 6 and 8pm, one was a good idea the other wasn't. Jessica and Hannah done a fantastic job with the raffle tickets collecting quite a bit of cash, (thanks everyone),
8pm'ish and off went our marshal Webby to verify the 1st capture, an 8lb 12oz Common Carp to the swamp thing Paul Hill, he was on the lookout and in the lead.

In total there were seventeen anglers dotted around the lake, conditions were perfect however the lake was proving not to be as easy as some people think.

1am'ish Webby was on the phone again, this time Bradley Wiffen with a 5lb 14oz Bream, Brad still a junior of the Club was well chuffed.

The clocks Changed into British summer time at 2am and that caused a little confusion in the morning with some people not knowing if their phones had 'Automatically' changed or not, the kettle was on for most of the morning with frequent visitors filling their cherished Verulam mugs, the tidying up had started and as we approached the last hour the help was very much appreciated, (thanks guys).
The weather was fine and the sun was out for most of the morning and all that was left was the presentations and raffle,

In total we managed to Raise £271.40 for the Verulam Angling Club juniors section, and in today's economic climate that is some achievement.

Thank you to everyone who helped and those who took part, those who donated prizes for the raffle, those who helped set-up and clear-up, Dan for logistics, Zoe and Vicky for catering, those that loaned the equipment, and anyone else that helped in some way who I haven't named.

Hopefully we can do it all again next year!
