By the rivers of barbel, Ron..

[sorry Bony M]

VAC members will be aware of the great barbel fishing on offer. Marford Farm has a fantastic reputation and one that the VAC works hard to maintain. For instance, we aim to comply 100% with the landlords wishes regarding access times and any members on the venue when they shouldn't be are at risk of loosing their membership. Equally, there's zero tolerance to litter and all anglers are asked to make fish care paramount with use of barbless hooks and unhooking mats plus to ensure that barbel are allowed to fully recover before being released.

The fish do seem to be doing well despite the pressure and we are particularly please to see healthy recruitment on both our Lea venues with baby barbel being caught at Marford and at Leasey.

Is this the smallest 'headline' fish ever featured on the VAC site?

Our Ouse and Ivel venues all hold big barbel and already fish to 14lb 14oz have been reported from our new water at Milton Ernest. Note that this new stretch is still being prepared with regards to access, parking and swims but can now be fished.

If you fancy expanding your knowledge of barbel fishing, the VAC Specialist Committee have arranged another of their popular teach-ins at Felmersham on September 19. Check out the new Specialist Pages from the link button (left) to learn more plus read the many articles on specialist fishing now available.

One young man who may think he knows it all already is Rhys Shield who, with dad Paul, paid another visit to Marford at the end of August to record seven barbel including two doubles of 10.03 and 10.09..just short of his existing venue record.

VAC Open Day Video Memories

We had a very successful open day at Riverside in July. Full details on last months pages available from the Archive button. To watch the video click the pic (right) to load and play. It's 55mb and just under five minutes long.

What Va£ue do you put on the Future of Angling?

However, despite widespread publicity and the distribution of half a million membership leaflets, the level of recruitment has to date, fallen below expectations. This shortfall, along with higher than expected costs, is threatening the viability of the Trust.

* * *

Adult membership is just £20 per year. Click the logo to learn more about the work of the Angling Trust and why your £20 is important to preserve angling for future generations.

Membership shortfall : Of 4 million anglers less than 1% have joined the Trust – many more were expected to have signed up and, despite thousands of further members of former organisations due to renew in the remaining months of the year, the Board is not confident the organisation can continue to provide sufficient service to members without making savings.

Fishing on the Curriculum

Member and parent Rod Purcell offered to show a few of his daughter's school chums what fun fishing can be and it became a great four week experience.

Newsletters & e-News.

One or two members might have not received the latest VAC newsletter due to the transition to our new Club Database. Therefore, on this occasion, it's also available for download by clicking the image on the left.

UPDATE: the first new 'e-news issues have gone out. If you didn't receive a copy in your in-box then you need to make sure we have your email address. Of the 550 already on file, 50 or so are 'dead' and our transmission failed.

Please also be reminded that if you do not add your email address to your profile on the Club Database you will soon cease to receive e-News.

Please do not confuse the fact that your email may be registered on the VAC Forum - these are totally independent systems.

Yet another record tumbles as Kev Hawes bagged this 3.06 perch from Marford on maggot.

Marford bailiff Terry Lathwell used hemp to fool this cracking roach

Rhys Shield netted this 10-03 barbel as part of a bag of seven along with another of 10.09

I'm sworn to secrecy as to where Keith Speer landed this beautiful wild brown trout. VAC forum members will have found the clues.
