What a Fantastic Day......

August 19th was the date for the VAC's first open day. Held at Riverside Rd over 30 enthusiastic members and supporters plus representatives of other groups such as the Ver Society welcomed around 400 curious visitors to our premier fishery. Within this number were some 150 juniors, many of whom had never fished before and were keen to catch their first fish.

Some were able to fish alone, some had a chance to fish with their grandparents, and others stood in line waiting for a chance to have a go with one of the 'coaches'.

The club was fortunate to receive great support from many of the local tackle shops and manufacturers in the form of bait and free tackle. Very popular were the 5m whips from Leeda and every child received a goody bag from Oakwood Tackle.

Amongst the days many highlights we were very honoured to be officially 'opened' by the The Right Worshipful the Mayor of St. Albans who stayed for two hours and was very complementary about our fishery.

More pictures next month.

Will we do it again in 2007? Watch this space.

Well done Sheila

A regular competitor at our Summer series of matches for juniors, ladies and over 60's is Sheila Miles. Some dozen years older than the VAC itself, Sheila had her share of the glory in a recent match at Riverside Road when she landed this 9lb 4oz ghost carp. Along with a single roach this was enough to take top spot on the day. .

Do you recognise your litter?

It's highly likely that most of our junior members are regular web users and visitors to this site. So it's highly likely that they will recognise the rubbish they carefully placed into a white carrier bag before lobbing it into the trees at the back of Tony's Lake, Frogmore.

In case you've forgotten what you dumped, here's a reminder. We know from the sell-by date on the Ginsters wrapper and the date on the Stanborough day tickets more-or-less when you were on our fishery. We know by the Haribo sweets packet that you are likely to be junior members. We know by the tackle packets that you shop at Colney Tackle.

You need to know that when we catch you, you will lose your membership...for life.
