Riverside Road Revival

What with the crayfish, cormorants and mink it's not surprising that some members have been quick to criticise our Riverside Road fishery this Summer. But, amazingly, having now removed some 500lb in weight of crays, and discouraged the other predators with regular night time/dawn visits it seems that the fish are now coming out of hiding with many good catches being reported.

Even our hardworking registrar, Ken Mourton, fishing with a pole and a friend (I didn't know he had either!) managed around 75lb at the end of August; quality tench, crucians, roach, bream and this nice carp.

Crayfish extraction will continue with fyke nets being moved around the fishery and anti-cormorant ropes will go up during late autumn. (Wanted: army surplus barrage balloons)

Meanwhile, new stock is being carefully introduced with a good quantity of small roach and carp to 3lb now finding their way around their new home.

It's a pity our new stock didn't include this nice looking Koi caught by committee member Pete Mooney (right) on the recent Officers Match

Your Contribution

I've been out and about again and caught committee member Dave Harris giving his collection of vintage tackle an airing on the short walk at Marford.

Trotting elderberries with a smooth running centre-pin on an Avon split-cane rod soon had Dave catching the occasional nice chub.
