In the Summertime...
When the weather is fine... Well, to
be fair, we've had a great Summer and catches on VAC venues and on VAC
matches have been exceptional. For example, the annual Matt Miles Memorial
Carp Match final, despite suffering from the wettest Bank Holiday weekend
for some years and, despite all the hard work of the runners-up, it was a
conclusive win for the third year running for big fish experts Keith Speers
and Dave Currell. With a total weight of over 114lb from 'Grandads' at
Moor Mill they were several fish ahead of runners-up Andy Killinger and Rob
Shore on 62lb.
Here Keith plays another double figure fish whilst Dave looks on
Also winning for the 3rd year running is young match ace Nick Darke who beat
his own VAC match record to weigh-in 505lb of carp in five hours at Arran's
Lake near Ingatestone, Essex. Amazingly the top six places this year were the
same as last year, albeit with higher weights and 197lb of carp was good
enough only for tenth place. All the details of this event and other VAC
matches can be found on the Match Pages.
It is clearly an exceptional venue and for many people not a fishing match
but a fishing race. Nonetheless, it takes great skill and technique to
safely hook and land so many fish in such a short time. In case you are
wondering, the fishery rules were no more than 10 carp per keepnet and fish over
10lb weighed and returned. Click the pics for videos of Nick's peg an hour

Riverside Open Day a
Unlike the last couple of years when the heavens opened, this year's
event, held on July 6th, was bathed in glorious sunshine with temps in
the high twenties. In some respects this also cut potential visitor
numbers but we still recorded over 300 guests on the day with over 40
new memberships sold.
Amazingly, with all the noise and commotion, and with most of the bigger
carp and bream sunning themselves, a number of good fish were caught
plus plenty of small roach, perch and skimmers in some pegs. Well done
to Andy K who had a 12lb carp on a light pole rig and to the carp-corner
boys who managed to hook a number of carp around 5lb allowing passing
youngsters a chance to land and hold the fish.
