River's Reign Supreme
With the difficulties faced by rivers from predators,
poachers and abstraction it's great to know that our waters can still produce
the goods. We have many members who have kept the faith although few actually
share their results
One exception is Andrew Poole who has put in the time on our Ouse waters and,
after a slow start, he has come up trumps with this wonderful 15.09 barbel plus
smaller samples to 11.10.
So dust off those rods and head north of Bedford. And not
just for barbel, Andrew has been amongst the perch (see right). And, don't tell
everyone, we know that perch over 4lb have been landed recently but, exactly
where, we're not telling.
HALF-SEASON MEMBERSHIPS NOW AVAILABLE
Valid from 1st November, a half-season membership can now be purchased.
This provides access to all VAC waters and is valid until 15th June 2012. You
can sign up on-line (see our Subscriptions page) or you can now join
'over the counter' at the Verulam Angling Centre (see ad - right) and pay cash,
cheque or credit card.
Autumn Match Series @ Riverside

A series of extra matches, the
Riverside Autumn Opens,
have been agreed. A maximum of 25 pegs will be used and the water will
remain open to members as usual.
The
dates, all Sundays, are set
to alternate with the
existing VAC Championship series
as follows:
Sept 11 & 25 -
Oct 9 & 23 -
Nov 6
& 20
Times:
Breakfast from
8am, draw at 9 and fish 10 –
3.

BELLOWS MILL UPDATE |
|
The VAC's freehold fishery at
Bellows Mill near Eaton Bray continues to see steady
improvement and development.
Trout fishing commenced on 1st September and
members of the VAC's trout section are enjoying great sport in Ford Lake. And
the coarse fishing on Mill Lake is continuing to throw up great fish with big
perch, tench, roach etc. plus grass carp to 28lb!!

glory before winter arrives - enjoy the view and the fish become a bonus. |

The VAC's last
two Championship matches have enjoyed great weather, full turn-outs and,
most important - obliging fish. In fact, club match records have tumbled
on both matches with, first, a 410lb winning weight to Nick Darke at
Entire Farm in Essex (left) which was then beaten by a weight of 422lb
to Josh Blavins from Alders Farm near Milton Keynes. |

That last match produced nearly 4,000lb of carp
with an average of 131lb per angler. For all the details on VAC matches,

From the River Lea this time. This is Darren Jennings with a 15.11 river common
from Leasey Bridge
Darren's fishing buddy Mark Linwood got his first ever barbel, also from Leasey
Bridge.
The Riverside matches have been going well with nets of carp like this 23lb bag
to Neil Anderson
Also from Riverside, the VAC's young match star and pole fishing coach, Matt
Young (Mr Foxman) had this cracking 3.02 crucian carp.
