River Magic

By now most members will have seen the news that, once again, we have added a new water to our ever expanding portfolio; Tingewick Fishery.

Despite this being 'old news' I could not resist making this the November lead article after enjoying a magical session on this neglected part of the upper Ouse.

After a Summer of pole fishing it took me a few hours to dust off the ABU 506 and Normark Titan for a long overdue stick float session. After about an hours drive from St Albans to Buckingham, via Aylesbury, the water itself was easy to find but not much in the way of obvious swims. The one exception is illustrated and provided an easy mid river trot in around 4ft of water to the fallen trees.

The session started well with small roach and dace every run through. Efforts to pick up bigger fish failed and, after a while, even the small ones became edgy. This was not so easy after all. A few chucks on the tip with a big lob produced just a small jack pike and not the hoped for monster perch. Perhaps it was the overnight frost or the recent floodwater but something made me think I hadn't found the water on its best form. Was I worried, not a bit...I enjoyed every minute and look forward to another solo session trying to track down the hidden monsters.

PS: Check out the Events Page for details of a day out at Carlton Rd, Felmersham, Saturday 10th November

Rod and Line Match - November 18 - Riverside

Still room for a few more for this special 'no-poles' match where we hope some nice roach bags will feature.

Entry is just 3, breakfast will be available and any large carp will only count as max 2lb.

See the Contacts Page for match organiser details.

It's a corka

Not our biggest carp by any means but this mega-gut mirror from the Island Pit at Moor Mill is a bit of a surprise capture for member Dich Ballard. Given that the source of all recent stockings is well documented it was at first thought that this 25-10 fish was an unknown 'original'. However, closer study of the pictures has resulted in the conclusion that it was a fish stocked over a year ago at just 19lb. How's that for a growth rate!!

Paul Cooke got amongst the big Ouse chub with this 6-8 beauty, a personal best, from Radwell.

Another Ouse fish to be envious of. Lucky captor is Brian Pope and the barbel went 13-08. Garlic meat on a falling river was the successful tactic.

Match committee chairman, Brian Lakin, took a break from the comps to join the day trip to the River Test at Timsbury and bagged this 5-8 PB chub.

Dave Baumal found a carp hotspot at Riverside. Float fished big pellet caught him a number of big fish through the Summer including this mirror that took his scales to 18lb.
