Carp Crusaders
No-one can argue that carp, in all their shapes, sizes and
variants have been the salvation of freshwater angling with many anglers,
particularly youngsters, fishing for nothing else. The VAC has long embraced
this fashion and offers waters holding smaller 'match carp', runs waters with
plenty of doubles and a few waters where 20's, 30's and perhaps bigger swim
wild.
Smallford, our members-only water near Hatfield, has a foot
in both camps with a good head of carp from upper singles up to a few, rarely
seen, 30's. But size isn't everything and whether or not carp are your thing,
few can deny that this chubby mirror is a handsome fish with scales like saucers
and colours like a forest in Autumn.

Landed at the end of October by Rob Burgess, she tipped the scales at 25-08 for
the benefit of those who
like to know such detail.
His pal, Jake Hughes, has put in the hours over a Moor Mill and has had the
success he deserves. Amongst the highlights is this ancient Common. How big,
Jake didn't say...does it matter?

| BELLOWS MILL UPDATE |
|
The VAC's freehold fishery at
Bellows Mill near Eaton Bray continues to see steady
improvement and development.
Members of the VAC's trout section are enjoying great sport in Ford Lake
(more details on the Trout pages). And
the coarse fishing on Mill Lake is continuing to throw up great fish with big
perch, tench, roach etc. plus grass carp to 28lb!!

If you've not yet visited this beautiful fishery then see it now in it's Autumn
glory before winter arrives - enjoy the view and the fish become a bonus. |
| Christmas @ Riverside |
 |
The VAC's popular
Christmas match at Riverside is on Sunday 11th December. The day
kicks off with a belly-busting breakfast and post match chills
are eroded by a glass or two of mulled wine. We also run a
raffle on the day so, when you book in with Brian (see the match
pages), please make a note to donate a suitable prize. And,
hopefully, it will not be frozen this time !! |

Andy Zneimer set his alarm early for a crack at Marford's peg 9 and was
delighted with this double. No scales to hand but estimated at 11lb..

Dave Baker dropped into a swim after a recent match at Riverside and quickly
popped out this 12.12 mirror and a smaller sample on method feeder.

Gary (Lucky Spong) Stewart had a great day out on the the VAC Specialist's
trip to Rutland netting zander like this beauty.
Tin Tin has recently
taken up carp fishing and, his dog, Snowy loves to watch the water for rolling
fish.
