GJW Titmuss

Excluding rivers, canals and associate waters, the VAC controls nine still waters that offer tench fishing. Three, possibly four, hold double figure tench.

With the very warm Spring so far all our waters are now producing good tench, be it the occasional specimen to double figures or multiple catches of small samples. Whatever the size tench, they are always a delight to target and make a great change from the endless carp that dominate so many waters and so many anglers.

This is Chris Riley with a stunning Island Lake fish of 5lb 11oz

To give you an idea of what you can aim for, here's a summary of our tench waters:

Venue  Typical Size  Venue Best
Riverside (opens May 9th) 2 - 3lb  5lb ?
Smallford 5 - 6lb  12.04
Moor Mill - Island Lake  4 - 5lb  8lb ?
Moor Mill - School Pit  4 - 5lb  8lb ?
Moor Mill - Pike Pit  5 - 6lb  10lb?
Moor Mill - Leather Lake*  5 - 6lb  11.08
Bellows Mill - Mill Lake** 2 - 3lb  4lb ?
Frogmore - Tony's Lake  all sizes  9lb reported in 2010
Aldenham Reservoir  6 - 7lb  10lb ?
 * currently closed  ** opens June 16

The next few months are the best time to target tench before some of the richer waters become weed choked. Why not have a go for them rather than just settle for accidental captures? You will thank me I'm sure.If you've beaten in recent years any of the above venue bests above please let us know.

All membership cards for Season 2011/12 will be sent out in early June. Existing members can use their current tickets up until June 15. If you are looking to join the VAC (good decision) then you can apply on-line now. See Subscriptions

Existing Members: Please read the next two items as still too many of you are not providing email addresses and photos!!

Remember, that unless your email address is registered on Club DB, our membership database, we can't keep you up to date via e-news nor can we accept your application to join the VAC Forum. To check and update your details see the Subscriptions page

Picture Perfect?

Club DB, our excellent member database, is now serving us well with members able to log in and update their details at any time.

However, a small number of members have not yet sent in or uploaded a passport style picture which we MUST HAVE to print up your next membership card. We believe we have now resolved some the technical difficulties but for those who cannot upload a suitable picture please find time to either email your photo (quoting ID number) or pop a picture in the post to the Registrar. More details on the Subscriptions page.

A reminder of our biggest tench, this 12.04 beast from Smallford a couple of years back to Mandy Spooner.

Grant Gahagan had this Turnford Marsh Pit monster last May.

Not all Moor Mill tench are monsters
This is a blast from the past - a tench from Frogmore car park lake
