Mint P's

That's Pike and Perch of course, not the veg. Older anglers will remember with mixed emotion the methods of fishing for pike and perch back in Mr Crabtree's day. Big cork bungs, spiral leads, heavy duty mono line, stubby rods and Jardine snap tackle with vicious barbed trebles upon which a hapless roach would be impaled or, scaled down with a hapless gudgeon for Sergeant Perch.

Thankfully, these days tackle and methods are far more refined with fish care at the top of the agenda. And, within the VAC, we have a good number of anglers who make a point of pursuing these beautiful creatures and are now prepared to share their success including Barry Jarvis with this 14lb fish from Smallford.

OK, so it's not a 'thirty' but it's great to see Smallford producing quality pike again. And let's also celebrate our perch hunters such as Ed Zneimer below (and right). He didn't revel his methods but I bet it wasn't a bunch of brandlings under a 'Perch-Bob' float. This beauty of 3.08 was from our stretch of the Ouse at Felmersham.

Riverside Closed For The Trout Season

A reminder that Riverside is now closed for coarse fishing until Monday 6th May.

* Coaching Sessions *

Roger Smith is the VAC''s Level 2 angling coach and this year, supported by our level 1 coaches, This season Roger has delivered angling tuition to well over 100 budding fishermen of both sexes.

Sessions for this season, mostly at Riverside Road, have now finished. But it's not too early to make enquiries about next year by emailing Roger here.

Although aimed mostly at Juniors the VAC does also run a number of sessions for adults as well covering basic tactics as well as specialist techniques.

Version 2 of our Membership Database now live

With the release from 1st November of our half-year option for new members the VAC have also successfully migrated to version 2 of or our club membership database. Based on the ClubPier platform, the membership database product is available for purchase and suits similar clubs and associations.

One particular major development is that we can now accept payment via Paypal (for new memberships only). Once onboard with the VAC we do encourage you to sign-up for Direct Debit as this allows us to ensure that your new season's membership is facilitated promptly without the costs and overheads of posting renewal forms, reminders and processing cheques.

Ed Zneimer with another great perch, this one was just on 3lb but was part of a catch of three large perch plus some small pike on lobworm at Bellow's Mill.

This perch, nudging 3lb, was revealed in a recent fish survey at Riverside.

Here's Colin Rennison with one of the five carp that won him the last VAC match of the 2012/13 Championship and helped him jump to top spot overall. Full details on the VAC match pages.

Ted Woolnough's patience on an unusually difficult day at Marford was reward with one of the bigger resident chub, This beauty went 5.06.

Good to see that he's keeping it low over the mandatory unhooking mat.
