Another Milestone Past

10 years of the VAC Website

March 2000... some great events in history occurred in this month including Vladimir Putin being elected President of Russia, Chen Shui-bian was elected as the President of Taiwan and, in the USA, the NASDAQ Composite Shares Index reached an all-time high of 5048. Back in St Albans, far more exciting was the launch of the 1st issue of the VAC website.

The key concept then, as now, was to keep it simple and reflect the sort of material typically circulated, at some expense, in regular posted newsletters. Times have moved on and, although we still have two or three posted newsletters per year, much of the day to day news is reported here on the VAC website and cascaded out, to those who have registered their email addresses, via e-news.

The VAC Home Page (what you are reading now) is still updated every month by Webmaster Stan Kiddle and, reflecting the greater use of the web and the different disciplines in angling, we now also have supplementary WebPages supporting the Specialist, Trout and Match communities.

This is also a timely reminder that you can still access all 120 of the back issues of the VAC Home Page via the archive button at the top.

Stewart at Riverside 2007

Obituary - Stewart Seggie : Sadly, this is becoming a regular spot with the passing of yet another respected VAC member. Stewart was best known amongst the VAC trout section where he had been a member for as long as anyone can remember having attended fly tying lessons with Clive Butcher in the 1970s. Over the years he become quite a well-loved character, quietly fishing from a chair and always delighted to be by the waterside.

Stewart saw active duty during WW2 as a Lieutenant in the 6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry and was recommended for the award of the Military Cross for conspicuous bravery during ferocious encounters with the enemy in September 1944 in France. He was awarded the MC in 1945 by non other than General Montgomery himself. He then played an active role in establishing the post war government in Western Germany, a duty he was subsequently very proud to have undertaken. RIP

VAC Champion; for the third year running, webmaster Stan Kiddle has won the club's converted Championship. This is awarded to the competitor with the highest points, counting the best 10 from 16 matches.

Stan fished 15 matches and won five outright and was second on six more, recording 975 points from a maximum of 1,000.

With a number of new faces joining in on the VAC matches in recent months next years Championship promises to be closely contested.
