Barbel Bonanza
Our Marford barbel are getting fatter than Hoss (that will
confuse anyone under 45). During February, hardly prime barbel time, with foul
weather, snow melt and sub-zero temperatures our barbel went on a mega-munch
with, seemingly, 9's and 10's coming out daily. As you would expect, winter
tactics were the key with maggot and caster accounting for most of the fish
reported.
Check out your contribution for the
best of the fish reported and look below in awe at the catch pics of what six
year old junior member Kyle St. Pierre took on simple maggot feeder whilst
fishing with dad Paul. On the last day of February he bagged as follows; barbel
of 10lb 9oz, 9lb 11oz, 9lb 6 oz, 8lb 6oz (no pic), 7lb 14oz and 3 barbel from 4
- 7lb with 2 nice chub around 2-3lb.

Paul was obviously kept busy helping
his son as he only (only !!) managed three barbel to 9lb along with a good chub.
Many of us would be happy with a catch like that after a 250 mile round trip to
the Avon so let's not get complacent over the quality of the river fishing on
our doorstep. This would be a good time to remind members to abide by the rules
for Marford, particularly start and end times, and to ensure they have an
unhooking mat and return all fish the the greatest of care. Only one concern,
when you caught fish like this aged six it can take a long time to do better.

The Zanderman has
been back up the A1 and has reported yet more success on the Ivel
including a catch of seven chub to 5lb 6oz. Click the link below to read
the article first published on the VAC forum.
Meanwhile, another Ivel fan,
Steve Burfoot (left), has repeated his success from the end of last
season with this bag of pole caught quality fish.

Tingrith - important news
Unfortunately our association with
Tingrith has come to an end as they have now moved to season ticket only
fishing. However, we still have plenty of other associate waters...see below for
details.

Smallford Super Pike
|
Plenty of members like to target pike at this time of the year
and we all know that Smallford holds some great specimens. The
smaller fish are not too difficult but anything about 10lb is
still a bit special.
Therefore, it's a pleasure to print the first pics of a
Smallford '20'. Member Jakub Kumsta banked this fish at 21.08
early in March. I wonder if the sores on the mouth are from
earlier captures?

Jay Mareachalea hasn't been out as
much as he would like this season but a rare trip to Marford produced this
10lb'er.

Junior member Luke Cole had this
Marford barbel at 8.02.

Keith Speer catches enough quality
fish to warrant his own website. In the worst conditions and on 'roach'
tackle he landed this 10lb'er plus two other barbel.

Danny Arnold had his first ever
barbel early in the month on a bunch of maggots. 9lb 12oz so soon to add to our
stock of 'doubles'

Couldn't miss this one, even if it's
not a barbel. It's the bearded wonder again with the biggest roach ever reported
from Marford at a stonking 2lb 6oz. Read the details of Keith's catches on the
VAC forum.
