Ever Ready Roach
It's a matter of fact that
all Verulam waters contain roach and almost all have specimens exceeding the
magic two pound! Even targeting the 1lb plus specimens isn't easy when there are
so many other fish likely to find your bait first. It helps to know that at
Frogmore a caster fished off the bottom might just find one of the big roach
generally missed by those aiming for the carp and, at Riverside, the last hour
before darkness is when they feed best.
The specimen below, proudly held by
General Committee man Keith Speer, was caught at Marford on a single caster and
stick float. But he had to endure many nuisance fish such as a 10.07 barbel (see
right) before one of Marford's super roach finally took the bait.

venues close from March 15th to June 15th inclusive.

After some months of neglect, the
VAC Specialist Site,
which aims to cater for members targeting our big carp, barbel, pike and other
popular species, is being re-launched. It will feature a new yet familiar style
and will be edited by carp angler and IT enthusiast, Dave (Duch) Hillier. Dave
is keen to receive your contributions and feedback...simply follow the links.

VAC Forum
re-launched
Following a review of the
VAC forum management process the 'all-new' forum is open for business.
On the surface it looks similar but
we have simplified the sections, moved the hosting to BT and implemented greater
controls over access. To register, simply following the link from the Forum
button, taking heed of the terms and conditions.
As new applications are manually
vetted (and we all have day jobs), please be patient if approval of your request
to join the forum takes a few days. It is vitally important that only bona-fide
members can post on the forum and that any inappropriate postings, as defined in
the T&Cs, can be dealt with in the proper manner. |

Long
way from Watford
Not that we normally mention the
angling exploits of other club's members but 'father of a friend' Tony Kafetz
spent some of his kids inheritance on a fishing trip to Thailand and landed this
potential world record Arapaima of 86kg (about 190lb). Not on a waggler and a
piece of flake I bet!

Keith's barbel above is the biggest
in Marford at 10.07. There are two (at least) 9lb'ers in there as well.
This pigeon chested dace weighed 1lb 1oz and is a record for Marford and the
VAC. Possibly the biggest ever from the River Lea? Member Steve Bowen is proud
captor.
Webmaster and new VAC

Rest In Peace
'Keith'. As reported in February, this popular Koi at Frogmore died some 12 years
on from first being stocked. However, unknown to everybody, it seems she had a
twin as her slightly smaller sister (8lb13oz) was landed in a recent match.
Like 'Keith' she is completely
orange with mottled black markings. And, as it was I who caught her, I think I
will name her Kylie.
