What A Year !!
At the end of the traditional season
it's worth looking back at the last year from a VAC perspective.
|
April
-
A wet warm Spring got the fish
moving and Jimmy 'Neutron' had his share at Smallford.
Meanwhile, lot's of big trout reported at Riverside and bags
of carp at Frogmore |
May
-
We were on a roll with this fine
31lb common stocked into Smallford. Over at Riverside the
trout season ended with a final score of 586 to 6lb. |
June
- Committee members were doing well
with Ash Adams landing an 18lb common from Frogmore, and Dan
Patrick landed yet another 25lb'er on the pole from
Smallford |
|
|
 |
 |
|
July
- More fresh stocks with two more
upper twenties (mirrors) going into Smallford. Dave McGrath
broke the Frogmore 3hour match record with 39-15-8 (let's
call it 40lb) |
August
- Be warned, a member was banned for
leaving rods unattended. Please respect our rules, remember,
the VAC may be watching ! |
September
- after weeks of rumours
it was official, the VAC had taken over the former LAA waters at
Park St, now promoted under the name of Moor Mill Over a skip
full of rubbish was collected. |
|
|
 |
 |
|
October - Chris Knight 'discovered'
a new 30lb common from Smallford and bad news with the loss of
the Batford stretch of the upper Lea |
November
- 12lb barbel from
Felmersham and 5lb chub from Marford were the highlights of a
'carp free' issue. Stories of bags of double figure bream and
near 30lb pike from Moormill added interest |
December
- Santa's sack was truly
bursting with carp with many hundreds being added to Riverside
and Frogmore match pool. This was followed by the transfer of 60
plus large carp to the Island Pit at Moor Mill. |
|
|
 |
 |
|
January
- we reported on a brace of
9lb barbel to junior members fishing at Marford and Greg 'Big
Man' Barber's 33lb common from Smallford. Perch to over 3lb from Moormill (but sadly no pictures) |
February - low clear water and sub
zero temps gave many an excuse to take a break from fishing. A
brave and (fool) hardy few were still bivvied up around Smallford
and Moor Mill, at times having to break the ice to free their
lines.
|
Match News -
Paul Bangs recorded his fifth win on our last match of the
season to climb to second place with 905 points, but unable
to beat organiser Brian Lakin's 915 points. Congratulations Brian
(pictured below).

boats allowed on VAC waters !! |
 |
Well done to member Mr Wiffin who reported this 16lb pike from
