Bellows Mill

'we've got the keys'

Home owners amongst you... will know that feeling of joy and trepidation when you finally took possession. It was the same a little while back for the VAC general committee when the final paperwork was cleared and we were proud owners of the freehold of Bellows Mill fishery, near Eaton Bray, about 20miles from the centre of St Albans.

The former trout fishery will require considerable work to ensure that both the venue and the fish stocks meet the standards our members expect but early sampling has revealed perch to over 2lb, pike and grass carp to 20lb, good sized tench plus roach and rudd. Our acquisition consists of two lakes; Mill and Ford, plus an adjoining stretch of river. Ford lake is about the size of a football pitch and Mill, pictured below, about half as big again.

At this point it needs to be stressed that there are no immediate plans to 'throw open the doors' for members to fish as the plans for bank works, preparation of budgets and forward ordering of stock are put in place. No doubt there will be calls for help on work parties, volunteers for bailiffing etc. in the coming months and if you believe you have something to offer please let us know. Meanwhile, ensure that you are registered for the VAC's e-news so that you can be kept up to date with developments and be aware, for example, of any sampling days and work parties. Members are advised that currently they cannot access the venue.

This latest venue announcement concludes a very busy time for the VAC committees and fishery staff. In the space of a few months the VAC portfolio has been enhanced with the Fishers Green Consortium, Aldenham Reservoir and now, our very own freehold on two lakes and a river. If you are reading this and are not yet a member, only one question; why not?

Membership for 2010-11 Season

Existing members were sent renewal forms in May. Do not worry if you did not get a form or mislay yours as you can renew on-line via Member Services. Once you have completed your details you will need to print out and post back the form with payment and pictures if applicable.

We have not yet implemented on-line payments therefore the process for renewal is the same as previous years in that you tick the membership(s) you require, plus any extras, add up the costs and send back the completed form plus cheque payment and two passport photos (if we've not already got your picture from last season). Please remember to include an A5 SAE.

New memberships follow a similar process. Simply click this link to register yourself as a new member on Member Services and complete the form carefully. Select the membership and extras you require, print out the completed form (remember to select Print to Fit so that all the columns are included) and post back with an A5 SAE to the address provided. Please either upload your passport style photo or include two copies with your form as we print your picture directly onto your membership card. Please DO NOT CREATE a new account if you are an existing VAC MEMBER.

Additionally, new member forms will be available from local tackle shops.

HAVE WE GOT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS?

Remember, that unless your email address is registered on Club DB, our membership database, we can't keep you up to date via e-news nor can we accept your application to join the VAC Forum. To check and update your details see the Subscriptions page

Picture Perfect?

Club DB, our excellent member database, is now serving us well with members able to log in and update their details at any time.

However, a large number of members have not yet sent in or uploaded a passport style picture which we will need to print up your next membership card. We believe we have now resolved some the technical difficulties but for those who cannot upload a suitable picture please find time to either email your photo (quoting ID number) or pop a picture in the post to the Registrar. More details on the Subscriptions page.
