For what we are
about to receive...
From talking to members and assessing feedback on your
application forms we know that many of you really enjoy fishing
river venues. So it's no doubt that there will be plenty of
early starters on June 16th when they re-open for the
traditional season.

Scenes from
Felmersham
Rivers in fine
form. With the wonderful wet and warm weather this Spring
all our venues are in fine shape. Working parties have been out
improving and enhancing all aspects and the fish have been reported as
having spawned and are now ready for catching.
River Lea:
Marford and Leasey Bridge received a real boost with a flash
flood at the end of May washing away a lot of accumulated silt.
The many reed beds and flow deflectors will have ensured that
this years fry will have had plenty of sanctuary. The Leasey backwater
has been kept tidy and rakes should be available for additional
weed dragging if necessary. Remember that pegs are limited on these
popular venues and bailiffs will be attending to ensure that
start times are strictly adhered to. When targeting barbel
ensure your tackle is up to the job as they will be fitting fit.
Always allow them time to recover when releasing back into the
flow.
River Ouse:
Much time and money has been spent in recent months enhancing
our fishing at Radwell. We share this fantastic stretch with
Vauxhall AC who control the opposite bank. We now have nine
platforms on our side that allow our members access to some
fantastic fast water pegs - the home of barbel to 16lb and chub
to over 7lb. When fishing here please be considerate to Vauxhall
members on the far bank. Upstream at Felmersham the club now
controls both banks providing access to more of the backwater;
reported to hold considerable numbers of tench plus large bream,
roach and perch. Well worth a try but travel light as it's a bit
of a walk. Consult your membership books for maps.
River Ivel:
The club shares many miles of the Ivel with other IPA members.
There are some very big fish to be had, barbel over 15lb and
monster chub. But it's not easy fishing as the fish can mover
over many miles of river. Well worth making the effort for and a
complete contrast to the easy fishing at the likes of Marford.
River Colne:
Let's not forget that our Troy venue includes a beautiful
stretch of the Colne. Last year low water levels meant poor
results but with extra water now, the bigger fish will have
emerged from their sanctuaries and some good results should be
possible for those prepared to explore.
********
As always, we really
need your feedback. Please email in your catch details, good or
bad plus pictures that we can publish here. Or post your
comments and pics on the club forum - see link on left.

The Big One! |
|
Here's Toadless, our big Leather that lives in the Leather
Pit (no surprise) at Moor Mill. Caught most recently by Dave
and assisted by son Josh. It's first name terms (or worse)
over on the VAC forum so all I can add is that she was
caught at the end of May and was a little down in weight at
38.5lb
Rumour has it
that there are bigger fish in Troy and Turnford but, for
now, she's still our biggest authenticated fish. |
