New rules for Marford - zero tolerance everywhere

Thanks to the thoughtless actions of an idiot who left Marford fishery leaving all the gates wide open, potentially letting cattle stray onto the by-pass, the VAC came very close to losing this popular fishery.

Consequently we have had to introduce some new restrictions:-

  • One Rod only

  • No Keep nets (until further notice)

  • No-one allowed on the fishery between 9-30pm and 4-30am during July

  • No-one allowed on the fishery between 8-30pm and 5-30am during August.

  • In other words! you MUST be off the fishery by 9-30pm during July and 8-30pm during August.

Also, again on a sour note, I'm afraid - a member has been expelled for blatantly discarding a bag of rubbish at Riverside. Remember - 'leave litter, leave the VAC'

Frogmore Maturing Nicely

Both the match lake and the car park lake are fishing very well at the moment. A recent juniors, ladies & OAP's match averaged over 9lb per angler. Both lakes have had carp to 20lb reported with numerous doubles from the car park lake and nice catches of mostly small carp from the match lake. Meanwhile, a combination of hard work and mother nature is seeing lake 4 (pictured below) maturing nicely.

1000 and climbing

VAC membership has soared past the 1000 mark several months earlier than in previous years. If you are not already a member, now's the best time to join - just click here for details.

Match Record Broken

Brian Lakin has continued his good form with a 49lb bag of bream and tench to over 5lb to win the Rodney Lee trophy at the end of June at Smallford. This is a new best for the venue.

A week later Paul Bangs made the best of a good draw on a hard day at his local Riverside Road when hot sunshine put the fish off.

Paul's 10-02 net of skimmers and crucians was well clear of second placed Neil Anderson who put 6-08 on the scales

Meanwhile, the VAC match team didn't have the best of days on the Division 3 National fished on July 5th on the Trent around Newark. Three of the 12-man squad blanked with Pete Fell having the best team result of third in section with two bream for nearly 12lb, the bigger fish being over 7lb. On the day the team were 32nd out of 41 - Barnet & District finished 36th. Click here for more on this match.
