On the Up......

Tom Carey had this ex
Frogmore fish from the Island Pit at 24-02 on Sunday 10th
December |
Some excellent
news to start the year, VAC membership has passed the
1,600 mark. This is a truly fantastic achievement for
the club which is now in it's 73rd year. As members already
know, all club funds are reinvested to protect, develop and
enhance your fishing and the extra income this year will
soon be paying dividends following the addition of extra
stock at Moor Mill.
Members should have received their latest VAC newsletter
(number 85) just after the New Year and will have seen the
great lead article by Moor Mill Bailiff, Keith Speer. As a
number of our members have already discovered these waters
provide a real mixture of fishing opportunities. But more
than that, they provide the VAC with capacity and scope for
future growth. The Island Pit is a large water and has
already produced, this season, some remarkable bream bags.
We are now finding that the growth rates of carp stocked just a year ago are nothing
short of phenomenal. We've literally had fish almost double
in weight with one mirror stocked at 14lb now reported as
24lb (see left) and a common (The Perch) going from
under 14lb to 22lb.
Therefore we have great
expectation for the 100 new carp between 5 & 14lb plus the
600 small tench stocked just before Christmas. And it won't
stop there as further stockings are in the planning stages
plus bank clearance and swim creation work. With money, hard
work and dedication we expect the Moor Mill to become one of
the best mixed fisheries in the county.
And it's not just
membership that's up. The recent rains now mean our
still waters are now lapping at the banks. Hopefully, at
Frogmore in particular, things will be a little less 'knife
edge' this Summer. |

Congratulations to life
member Mark Jones for winning the Christmas Match at
Riverside on December 17th with 15lb of small carp and
roach. The match featured one of the biggest turnouts of the
season with 36 fishing, having first, of course, enjoyed a
great breakfast (thanks to Chris Knight).
For details of this
match and the remaining fixtures this season see the match

Ol' George
has had a great year at Marford with 10 barbel over the 9lb
mark and plenty of chunky chub to a best of 4lb 7oz. Will we
be seeing 10lb'ers in 2007? |
Graham
Neville was on his first trip to the famous Marford Short
Walk and caught this 9lb 1oz Barbel on Strawberry Luncheon
meat. Check out the distinctive dorsal fin |
