Dear Member
I am glad
to have this opportunity to be able to wish all members seasonal
greetings. An ever growing number of VAC members now have access
to the internet, and this makes it very much easier for the club
to communicate with members.
So, I wish all
members a Happy and Prosperous New Year, and Tight Lines in
2005.
Best Wishes,
Brian Bangs President VAC |

I have a passion for Riverside Road. Full of fish yet,
particularly in the colder months, can be a real challenge. And,
be honest, we fish for the challenge don't we?
So, I was keen to try out my latest ideas on the recent
Christmas match (me and 23 others). Five hours without a bite on
peg 11 and I was in the majority. Yet others caught and three
weights over 20lb were recorded, 26lb being top on the day -
well done Roger Smith who went from 3rd to1st with an 11lb carp
hooked 5min from the whistle. Fourth place Kev Hawes recorded at
least 14 small carp in his 18lb bag. Yet you could count
the number of silver fish caught on one hand and not one perch.
Yet last year I had about 80 small perch for 3-11 - where have
they gone?
So, keen to prove a point, I popped back after the Christmas
break with some two-week old pinkies and a pinch of casters and
proved I had the right method once I had found the fish. About
5lb, not a big total weight, in under four hours fishing, but I
had bream, skimmers, roach, rudd and hybrids, mostly on caster
fishing light and long. All in all, very satisfying and a
great change from carp!
Remember to keep the reports - and pictures coming.

Trout Section
Meeting
We are pleased to announce that as a result of the decision at
last months EGM trout fishing will continue at Riverside until
a suitable new venue is found.
The Trout Section Annual Meeting will be held in the VAC club
meeting room at Riverside Road on Wednesday 12th January 2005
at 19.30 hrs. The Agenda will be;
|
1. Minutes of 2004 meeting |
6. Election of Officers. |
|
2. Matters arising |
7. Possible new waters. |
|
3. Report on EGM held in November 2004. |
8. Trout section competitions and outings for 2005. |
|
4. Report on 2004 season. |
9. Any other business. |
|
5. Action to improve quality of fishing & proposed
season ticket cost. |
|
Attendees will be given priority in selecting their preferred
fishing day. Those unable to attend should contact John
Youngs on 01582 833678 or Brain Gear on 07795 262281
thereafter to reserve their day.
………………………………………………………………….
The 2005 season will start on Friday 4th March running for 10
weeks and finishing on Thursday 12th May. In an
endeavour to improve the sport and ease the losses to
Cormorants we intend to aim for a minimum size of 1.3/4 lb and
increase fish density in the earlier part of the season.
Because of the reduction from an 11 to a 10 week season we are
planning to adjust charges to £65 for a 10 week ticket, a 5
week ticket will remain at £35, day tickets to continue at
£7.50 for VAC club members, a VAC member can bring guests cost
£13.50 inclusive of the cost of a VAC guest ticket currently
£6. These charges are provisional and subject to the
approval of our Annual Meeting in January and the VAC General
Committee.
We plan the usual open Fishing Match in memory of Dave
Marlborough at the end of the season, probably a Friday,
details will be put on the notice board. Also we will be
organising day trips to Elinor and other venues, details again
on notice board.

Your Contribution
Here's 15 years old member Scott Bartlett
with an 11lb pike caught back in late August
from Smallford on deadbait.
There's been some good numbers of pike
reported from Smallford recently although
18lb or so seems to have been the biggest so
far. If you fancy a go yourself remember an
unhooking mat and the right hook extraction
tools.

Discount Baits
Members may recall in a recent e-news a
mention that Titmus's in Wheathampstead
offer VAC members a nice discount on bait
products. They do a very large range of
pellets, seeds, ground baits etc. plus a
selection from Dynamite baits and Ton Up.
Why not club together with some mates and
buy some 25kg sacks of hemp and pellet?
Empty, clean and dry plastic 2 litre milk
bottles are excellent for storing smaller
quantities when you split the sacks down.
