New Kids on the Block

As none of us are getting any younger it's important that the VAC does all it can to encourage junior anglers to get off to a good start. One way we seek to achieve this is through the hard work of the VAC's junior rep. Affectionately known as 'Foxy' (he loves Fox branded tackle), Matt Young (3rd from the left below) is working hard to bring fresh ideas and fresh blood to the junior section

Organising a junior match for 21st December was a great step forward although, as expected, poor weather and Christmas shopping reduced the numbers on the day from some 20 names to just seven. Perhaps no surprise that Matt, who is at Frogmore most weekends, won with a reasonable 6-14 but there was no lack of effort and enthusiasm from the others on a day when an influx of cold water put many fish off the feed. In second place with an excellent 4-14 was the only female in attendance, Chloe Muir. Hopefully we'll see Chloe and the rest of these likely lads out on the junior, ladies and seniors series this coming summer.

Matt is formulating numerous other ideas and would welcome feedback. For example a dad's n lads (or similar combination) pairs match has been suggested. Also coaching days on pole fishing, lure fishing etc. at suitable venues. If you would like to register your interest and support please get in touch with Matt; his details are on the Juniors page.

Christmas Eve on the Ivel

Whilst most of us were making final arrangements for Christmas Day our roving super specialist Keith Speer was getting his present early in the form of a bag-up session with a shoal of Biggleswade chub.

As usual, Keith has documented every detail in the article which he posted on the VAC forum. If ever there was a good reason to join the forum (remember, VAC members only) this is it.

Junior page co-editor Dom Rickard has documented a recent trip to Frogmore for the Junior pages. Check out, in his own words, how many carp (unlike in the picture) he didn't catch !!

Here's young Chloe with her bag of skimmers, roach and rudd from the December Junior Match at Frogmore

Here we have Santa's little helpers in the form of Danny Marsland, his dad Peter and pal John Gray,  All hooked and landed barbel within minutes of each other. A great start to their Christmas.

This barbel pic shows Marford's biggest at 10-08 held by captor John Gray. Added to the VAC forum gallery 'Boycie' aka Danny Marsland.

The Moor Mill massive are truly hard core and will sleep through frosts, snow and cyclones for the chance to land 'Toadless'.
