WET - BUT LOTS OF FISH
The annual VAC Open Day at Riverside has always enjoyed great
weather in previous years but we were hammered by the rain this time. It was
raining when we opened at 9am and it was still raining when the last visitors
were leaving around 6pm.

This may have put off the more casual visitor but we were still delighted to
count over 200 through the gates (normally we get 500). Many had youngsters with
them and it was great to see so many have a chance to spend time with one of our
coaches for some pole fishing or to pick up hints, tips and free t-shirts from
the big-fish boys on 'Carp Corner'.
Applications are still coming in but we believe more than 20
new members have joined following their attendance and, judging by some of the
youngsters faces, proudly holding their first fish, some are now 'hooked for
life'.
What was most amazing was the amount of fish caught.
Pretty much every youngster caught a few roach, rudd and perch but some, like
young Lucy Gardner, landed several carp to 5lb plus crucians, tench and
good sized bream fishing a short pole with simple red maggot over pellet.
Biggest fish of the day was an 8lb plus common landed on one of the 'free' whips
given away to attending juniors.
More juniors scoring great catches

| Lance Andrews-Mason took his
son Harry to Leasey Bridge and was delighted to report that Harry landed
roach to 1lb, some nice chub and a 6lb barbel, all on maggot to just 2lb

16yr old Lewis Day fished Smallford's Noddy
swim with a pal and landed this PB common of 20lb along with numerous
bream to 6lb. |

This 1.09 perch was the highlight of a great session for
Martyn Abraham on Tony's Lake at Frogmore.

Howard Morris joined the VAC only a few weeks ago and is delighted to report his
first barbel, around 4lb, from Leasey Bridge.

Lucy Moorby's perch may be the smallest we've had on here but her grin is about
the biggest!
Also from Leasey Bridge, Andy Zneimer didn't get to weigh this barbel but
consensus is that it was over 7lb.
Yasir Mahood has had a successful year so far on Turnford's Railway pit
with this 23lb common being one of many great fish.
