A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum

Sorry I'm late this month, too busy fishing !! Did you see me in Angling Times? Me, a centrefold!! Bagging crucians from Fringe Lake at Tingrith.

And the same methods work at Frogmore and Riverside. Talking of which, only last month I was saying how well Riverside was fishing and now, just a couple of months on and it is far more of a challenge. Of course the fish are still there. But now the carp, crucians, bream, tench and roach are far more fickle and only those who are able to fish tight and perhaps a little finer are getting the rewards.

Meanwhile, entries on the guest book have shot up in the last few weeks. To see for yourself, simply click the link lower down on the left hand column.

As you can see, many have asked for a proper forum type facility to discuss issues on-line and I'm delighted to report that we now have this. At present it's using free-of-charge services from Bravenet. But, if the usage picks up, I'm sure the club will fund upgrading to the Pro version which will remove the ads.

To view the VAC Forum simply click the button lower down on the left hand column. As with the guestbook, anonymous entries are likely to be removed, and the same for any entries which may reflect badly on the club or fishing in general. As with the guest book, these services are not a replacement for proper and formal communication with the club which should always be via the Secretary.

Paul Hill seems to have a knack with those Smallford carp. Here's another from his collection, a very distinctive mirror reported at just over 22lb.  Surely someone else is taking pix of VAC fish? Where's that pic of the 11lb tench reported from Smallford by the two guys I met down at Frogmore?

Meanwhile, young Tom Williams had this 3lb chub at Frogmore in the Juniors, OAPs & ladies match

Match News:

Attendance at this Summer's Juniors, OAPs & Ladies matches have been quite good as have the catches. It's been great to see plenty of new faces this year including Sheila Miles, seen left with Frogmore bailiff Alan. At 82 she gets a chance to win two out of the three catagories and good luck to her. Hope I'm still able to cast a line when I'm that age.

In the evening league this year, overall numbers were a little down, initially due to the football. But the fishing was pretty good with only Smallford being particularly moody. The Frogmore 3-hour match record was broken twice, and now stands at 34-08 by organiser Dan Patrick who was narrowly beaten for the series by webmaster Stan Kiddle, thanks largely to a last minute 7lb carp on the last match to give Stan third on the night and first overall.

Not the best of pictures but also from Frogmore is this just-about-usable pic of Bob Scott with 'Keith' our resident Koi. Keith has been at Frogmore since '97 and has been in all the lakes at one time or another.  She's now weighing in at 9-08 and in lovely condition. I caught her in '98 at 6-08 so not brilliant growth rates :(

Meanwhile, away from carp venues, squatt master Tim Jones won the Ivinghoe match

for the second year running with over 11lb

of small roach, taking the Silver Peg bonus as well !
