250 CLUB

A disappointing response to the club's 250-club lottery - only 66 tickets were sold. The first winner with No. 13, A. Hayes.

Record Breakers
Wow, what a month !!! Club match records were consistently being broken during July:-

  • New venue and club 3-hour match record of 36lb 12oz of skimmers caught by Mick Chappell at Smallford;

  • New venue record of 32-06 of bream to 5-01 from our stretch of the Ivel for Kev Wilder;

  • New venue and almost a club 5-hour match record for Paul Bangs with 54-03 at Frogmore

The pic below shows Paul at Frogmore last Winter landing a double figure carp

Juniors Beaten

Sadly only five VAC juniors were available to rise to the challenge set by a very enthusiastic Hounslow Junior Angling Club. Held at Frogmore on August 3rd the home team were beaten 38 to 64 points. It was not all bad for Verulam with Joe Kiddle (pictured above) taking top place with 8-05 including a last-gasp carp of 6-13 caught on a single caster from peg 14.

Many thanks to VAC Junior Rep Lewis Kechington for organising the day and to Colney Tackle for generously donating two gallons of maggots.

A few reports from the fisheries:
At Paynes Lane, carp to 22lb have been reported along with tench to 9lb Double figure barbel have come from Felmersham with smaller ones from Radwell. Large tench have also been reported from Felmersham.
Leasey Bridge is still producing barbel to 5lb 8oz with up to eight being taken in one session. Dace are being taken on the river. Marford Farm continues to fish it's head off with roach to 2lb appearing in
with the usual prolific barbel and carp catches.
Plenty of good tench and crucians are being taken from Riverside along with carp to 18lb. Members taking their young children to Riverside are reminded that they must fish in the same swim.
At Turnford, carp to 27lb have been reported from the railway pit. Three VAC members were caught leaving litter and will be subject to severe disciplinary action.
We have received no reports from the IPA fisheries - please let us know if you're fishing them.
Smallford produced 49 bream to 5lb 10oz for one member, along with a 1lb roach.

The popular evening league of six matches culminated with 23 turning out for the last match of the series at Frogmore.  Bob Scott was top on the night with 18-04 with the league being won overall by Stan Kiddle, just a couple of points ahead of Paul Bangs and Trevor Davis - click here for all the latest match results
