Runs Water

Time passes quickly as you get older. It's hard to believe that its nearly eight years since the Verulam took control of the former LAA waters at Park Street that we know as Moor Mill.

In that time an amazing amount of change has taken place, literally tons of litter removed, swims built and amazing fish landed including Toadless, our monster leather and our record crucian.

Of the four pits, it the largest, the Island Lake that has enjoyed the most attention with careful stocking of upper single and double figure carp to supplement the original stock, some of which exceed 30lbs. The intention from day one was to create a 'runs water' and that ambition continues to mature as proven by the number of fish coming even during the cold snap. OK, so it's not as easy as some waters your read about but do we really want a water where the fish throw themselves on the hook?

The beauty of the Island Lake is that it's difficult enough, and with enough mystery, for almost any seasoned carp angler yet will reward the carp fishing novice. As Spring finally springs those carp (and big bream and the odd tench) will really get on the munch and you have good a chance of a special fish or three. But please please, take your litter home.

* Coaching Sessions *

Roger Smith is the VAC''s Level 2 angling coach and this year, supported by our level 1 coaches, This season Roger has delivered angling tuition to well over 100 budding fishermen of both sexes.

Sessions for this season, mostly at Riverside Road, have now finished. But it's not too early to make enquiries about next year by emailing Roger here.

Although aimed mostly at Juniors the VAC does also run a number of sessions for adults as well covering basic tactics as well as specialist techniques.

Version 2 of our Membership Database now live

With the release from 1st November of our half-year option for new members the VAC have also successfully migrated to version 2 of or our club membership database. Based on the ClubPier platform, the membership database product is available for purchase and suits similar clubs and associations.

One particular major development is that we can now accept payment via Paypal (for new memberships only). Once onboard with the VAC we do encourage you to sign-up for Direct Debit as this allows us to ensure that your new season's membership is facilitated promptly without the costs and overheads of posting renewal forms, reminders and processing cheques.

Local lad Tom Robins timed his visits well for three nice MM fish recently with this common of 13.08 being the biggest.

Here's a blast from the past. Back in April 2008 Matt Young was still getting the hang of pole fishing at Frogmore when he banked this Koi known as Kylie. Matt went on to be a top quality match angling winning many VAC matches but has now followed his heart and is now with his girlfriend on Gran Canaria

At the end of the river season two VAC members shook the record books from VAC waters. Above is Den Poole with a chub of 8-10 and below is Dave Currell with his barbel of 20.07.
