VAC gains
CLUBMARK
At this month's AGM General
Committee member Neil
Roberts proudly announced that the VAC has achieved Clubmark accreditation.
Here, in his own words, is the full story:
After
nine months of hard work, the long awaited email
popped into my in-box from Jon Wilson (Angling Development Board) simply worded,
Congratulations we made it in the
end!
What he meant was that, thanks to the help and support
of the Angling Development Board and a core VAC team from the General Committee,
Verulam Angling Club had become the first Angling Club in Hertfordshire to gain
the highly prestigious Clubmark from Sport England.
That’s true recognition of a quality club providing a safe and well managed
angling facility with an emphasis on growing its membership.

Neil (right) receiving our certificate at Riverside Road
Gaining Clubmark accreditation is no
‘walk in the park’, for starters the running of the club was broken down into
four parts;
ü
The Playing Programme
ü
Duty of care and safeguarding and protecting children and
young people
ü
Knowing your club and its community
ü
Club management
Each section had an onerous series
of questions to prove our claim to be a club worthy of a quality hallmark. On
top of that not happy with answers to questions the process required an
‘evidence file’ with supporting material to back up all the claims made. Ours
ran to 270 pages!
So now can we sit back and enjoy the
high life amongst the sporting club elite? Not a bit of it, there are annual
checks, and every three years we have to do it all over again to keep our
Clubmark status.
Why all the effort??
Well VAC want to continue to develop as an AC and increase
participation in angling at all levels and ages, and to do that we will need
help in the form of funding sometime in the future. As a Clubmarked club we
‘tick’ all the boxes in that regard. For more information
on Clubmark click the logo, top left on this page.
The VAC General Committee sends out a huge thank you to Neil for his hard
work in obtaining this milestone achievement plus to the
team that helped
make it happen;
Roger Smith, Barry
Killinger, John Youngs and Mark Jones.

Picture Perfect?
Club DB, our
excellent member database, is now serving us well with members able to
log in and update their details at any time.
However, a small number of
members have not yet sent in or uploaded a passport style picture which
we MUST HAVE to print up your next membership card. We believe we
have now resolved some the technical difficulties but for those who
cannot upload a suitable picture please find time to either email your
photo (quoting ID number) or pop a picture in the post to the Registrar.
