AGM agree £2 increase
This years AGM was well attended and debate was more heated
than last year. In particular there was concern raised that the proposal to
increase subs by £2 for adult membership to £65 (others pro-rata) was not
appropriate at this time of credit crunch and high unemployment.
Whist it's true that the VAC enjoyed
a good year in 2008/09 resulting in a cash surplus, your General Committee
positioned this against a background of increased costs (including three extra
venues added last season), an unexpected saving against last years fishery
budget and a recognition that we cannot bank on anticipated membership growth.
A number of members were keen to
express their views and several made the point that other clubs with which they
are involved have applied increases of £10 or more this season. They added that
it was common knowledge amongst anglers in the catchment area that the VAC
provides fantastic value for money. The motion went to the vote and was
unanimously carried.
The VAC Record List
After a slow start the VAC record
fish list is now starting to fill up. As you may recall, the list, managed by
the VAC Specialist Committee, is recording the best of species per venue
starting from 16 June 2008. Because of this a number of records remain unclaimed

The AGM also see's the
annual presentation of trophies. While most of these are contested
amongst the VAC match community, one trophy, the Life Members cup,
is awarded to what the General Committee believes to be the outstanding
angling achievement of the season.
This year, it is widely
agreed that Kyle St Pierre's bumper catch of 8 barbel to over 10lb and a
brace of fat chub was good fishing for any angler. For a six year old,
simply outstanding. Well done Kyle. |

(his second home). This 2.07 brown goldfish (often confused with
crucian carp) isn't a venue best as junior Jamie Laurence had a
bigger one the same day.

No wonder the cormorants are staying
away from Riverside Road during the trout season when we have 'Big Nobby' on
guard.
The Riverside trout anglers have
been enjoying some beautiful dawn starts. On days like these they don't
want to catch their limit bag too quickly.
Jakub Kumsta from the Czech Republic
had this 11lb tench from Smallford last June. Just one of several super
specimens he's had over the last year.
