Toadless Brings Moor Joy
The largest confirmed fish in Verulam waters, Toadless* the Leather, has been
banked by Moor Mill regular, John Stacey, at a new peak weight of 43lb.
After a number of sessions on the Island Pit, John followed his instincts to
shift to the east bank of Moor Mill's Leather Pit and struck lucky with this
much sort-after fish.
Of course, there are some who will
tell you stories of even bigger fish in some of our other waters Just seeing
them of course doesn't count, on the mat is where it's at !!

After some months of neglect, the
VAC Specialist Site,
which aims to cater for members targeting our big carp, barbel, pike and other
popular species, is being re-launched. It will feature a new yet familiar style
and will be edited by carp angler and IT enthusiast, Dave (Duch) Hillier. Dave
is keen to receive your contributions and feedback...simply follow the links.

VAC Forum

Within just four weeks of
launching the new forum over 10% of VAC members (180) have subscribed.
With the current
rate of applications we expected over 200 to be on-line in the much
revamped forum by end of the month. The forum, which is closely
monitored by our band of moderators, is strictly for VAC members only
and is a great way to keep up with the latest news and to make your
opinions known.
However, certain rules are
in place to ensure 'fair play' - please read and abide by these to
ensure your visit to the forum isn't your last. It is vitally important that only bona-fide
members can post on the forum, any inappropriate postings, as defined in
the T&Cs, will be dealt with in the proper manner.

| Aylesbury Arm -
Lower Dixon's Gap - Wilstone
This Tring AA controlled
stretch is a branch off the GUC with moderate boat traffic. A short
pound, it’s full of far bank features and has centre track depths to
4ft. prolific for carp to 30lb, and good chub to 5lb 6oz. Other species
include tench to 7lb, bream to 5lb, perch to 3lb and roach to 1lb 4oz. |

This section is fished a lot
for carp. They tend to show to corn, worm or floating bait like crust and dog
biscuit. Virtually all are caught to the far bank features. For chub try
introducing some chopped worm and try double caster or a segment of worm and
caster on the hook and you may still hook a carp. Tench to float fished corn.
Roach to float fished maggot and punched bread. Hemp is worth trying in the
warmer months.
Directions :
From Tring take the A41
towards Aylesbury. Turn right onto the B489 towards Marsworth and Ivinghoe. Pass
the first left turn for Wilstone and turn left at the small island towards
Gubblecote/Long Marston and Wingrave. You will soon come to the canal bridge.
There is lay-by parking for day visitors while members have access to the car
park over the canal bridge on the right. Sat Nav (nearby factory): HP23 4QF.

Steve Burfoot is back on these pages
again with this cracking bag from the River Ivel. Caught on pole tactics on a
stretch near Biggleswade, Steve found the river 'just right' a few days before
the season ended to land chub and bream to almost 6lb.
Above is Steve's travelling partner
and VAC Match Committee Chairmen Brian Lakin. Brian was just one peg up from
Brian yet only landed roach including these two 2lb'ers. As with Steve, pole
tactics to the far bank with caster and maggot brought results.
Remember VAC members can fish much
of the Ivel thanks to our affiliation to the IPA.
