Get Up and Get Out

At last the weather's warming up and
the fish are moving.
|
|
For numerous reasons many
anglers now self impose a lay-off from angling and why not
do this when it's cold and the fish are few and far between.
But now's the time to get back out there as the warm weather
has got fish moving on all our year-round still waters. Catches to 100lb
of carp and bream from the match pool at Frogmore are backed
up with reports of good fish from Moor Mill, including
Toadless the 40lb leather and a number of good carp to
29lb from Smallford. With the four consortium waters
at
Turnford also open now that's
ten top lakes to choose
from.
Just one thing, make sure you
have your new rod licence(s).

Are you a new member?
Then you are one of 381 anglers
who joined the VAC for season 2005-6. And you are one of a
total of
1385, an increase of over 10% which is a fantastic
reflection on the VAC, it's fisheries and the broad range of
angling catered for. However, if you're are one of the 251
who didn't renew last season, why not let us know why. We're
not perfect and are always striving to improve.

Here she is, in all her winter
glory...that's a pun as that's Mark Winter holding
Toadless, at exactly 40lb, from Moor Mill on April 1st.
And that's no joke. As well as banking the largest known
fish swimming in Verulam waters he also had two cracking
commons in the same session. That's some achievement for the
Leather Pit which takes it's name from the above fish, the
2nd largest known leather in the UK. |

With all the worry about water
shortages this year (hope you're doing your bit to save
water) thought this picture interesting.
Taken in November 2000 it's the

bridge is under water !! |
How to fish Frogmore
Not
everyone is successful at Frogmore and, despite the good numbers
of fish, you need to remember it's a small water and the fish
soon wise up.
At the moment the carp and
bream are responding to baits carefully presented in the margins
just at the bottom of the shelf. Small baits are best and
expander pellet and pinches of bread flake are working well. Try
feeding little and often with 2mm micro pellet. Half a bag
should last a session. Also good to provoke activity by feeding
a generous amount of maggots or casters first. This attracts the
silver fish and the carp soon follow. Small floats and small but
strong barbless hooks complete the picture.
|
Working Parties: We have a
working party at Moor Mill work party on Sunday 23rd
April, commencing 08:30am. We will be building in four swims
on the Island Lake, all potential volunteers to give bailiff
Paul Hill a shout on 07989 565115.

FLY FISHING @ RIVERSIDE
With membership up 40% on a record 2005 season the
Trout Section is going from strength to strength.
We have successfully introduced a number of VAC members
to the Art of Fly-fishing this season, and have run two
well-attended free Fly casting lessons.
Our dedicated area of the VAC website provides the latest
information on How is it Fishing, with invaluable
Hints and Tips on maximizing your chances of catching
the daily 3 Fish limit, and possibly one of the many
‘Whoppers’ we stock. This is addition to all the details you
need to join the section, and pictures of the Weeks Best
Catches.
The new stocking policy has proved extremely popular
with a high density of rainbow trout, averaging 2lb, and a
high proportion between 3Ib and 6lb. We even stock some
‘hard-fighting’ Blue trout, and the occasional
Brown trout to add even more interest to a days fishing.
With a days fishing costing just £7.50, based on purchase of a Full season ticket, we offer the best
value trout fishing in Hertfordshire.
