JIMMY 'NEUTRON' GOES ATOMIC AT SMALLFORD

Young Jimmy 'Neutron' is a popular and regular visitor to Smallford. Seen right with one of his upper doubles from last year he must have thought all his birthdays had come at once over the Bank Holiday weekend when he had settled in on Bastard Point.

In addition to the usual interruptions from quality bream and tench, Jimmy landed four carp, three over the 20lb mark and a new personal best and possible lake record common of 27-06. Eight other carp came to club members that weekend.

If you're down there yourself and see Jimmy, stop and say hello. But make sure you have an excuse ready as, once he starts talking, it's difficult to get away :)

Frogmore

Malcolm Jefferies nets another lump from Frogmore

It's not just Smallford that's coming on strong. With fresh water and extra stock in the match lake (pictured below) members are catching plenty of quality bream and numerous carp, many in double figures.

Generous feeding of pellet is the current method although plenty of fish are taking worm, caster and maggot.

Trout News

The policy of stocking quality sized fish is paying dividends for our Trout Section members. Below we see Ken Mourton (left) with a five pounder and Brian Gear with monster of six pounds.

A day ticket to VAC members cost 7 with member accompanied guest tickets at 13.50 (7.50 Day Ticket plus VAC Guest Ticket at 6.00). For day tickets contact Paul Mills with two days notice on 01727 758696.

Remember, it is still a three fish limit but at about two pounds plus each, that is 5 to 7 pounds of beautiful trout with great sport a day for 7 this year versus 3 to 4 pounds last! Is that good value or what? Remember, Season Tickets are still available at 70 for 10 weeks and 35 for 5 weeks. Apply to John Youngs on 01582 833678.

RULE BREAKERS

On recent visits to Frogmore and Smallford a number of members were caught leaving rods unattended. This is against club rules and these particular members were lucky not to be facing disciplinary action. Not all had new rod licenses either. Remember that the old ones expired at the end of March.

Members are also reminded that, despite the warm weather in late March, wading at Riverside, when trout fishing or coarse fishing, is strictly prohibited. This chap was apparently struggling with his flies and was about to try a woolly nobbler. Watch out for the crayfish mate !!
