Snow Joke
After a mild and frustratingly dry Winter we can't moan too
much about this months sub-zero temps and snow. The trick now will be to get on
the waters once warmer conditions return as the fish will be emerging from
Winter slumbers and some good catches will be on the cards.
Down at Riverside Road the ice and snow give a rare glimpse of the locations of
the numerous small springs that pre-date the fishery and fed the water-cress
beds that once occupied the site. The slighter warmer water from the springs
show as melt-holes on the surface. Remember that Riverside closes for coarse
fishing from Monday 20th February for the 10 week trout season.
Dates for your diary
The 26th AGM will be held on April 11th. Our popular
Open Day at Riverside is currently planned for Saturday July
14th.

Match News:
Spring 'warm-up' matches are scheduled for April 8th (Frogmore)
& 29th (Smallford) plus 13th May at Riverside.
The full 2012-13 fixture list is still being completed. With so many
attending, (an average of 25 per match last year) we are having to look
for some larger venues. Full details on the VAC Match pages in due
course. |

HALF-SEASON MEMBERSHIPS STILL AVAILABLE
A half-season VAC membership can still be purchased.
This provides access to all VAC waters and is valid until 15th June 2012. You
can sign up on-line (see our Subscriptions page) or you can now join
'over the counter' at the Verulam Angling Centre (see ad - right) and pay cash,
cheque or credit card.
WORK PARTY TIME
Keep a look out for VAC e-news in your in-box as a number
of work parties are now being planned. Remember that, unless you are exempt, you
need to complete a work party before 1st May or pay the penalty when renewing
your membership for next season.

Keith Speer, our cover star from last month, and numerous times before, flew the
flag for the VAC with a great two-page article on trotting on rivers for barbel
and chub in the Angling Times recently.
Officially confirmed recently is Josh Blavin's UK record crucian carp at 4.09 from
Moor Mill. Well done Josh, shame you have to share top spot with that other
chap.
